White Port, Quinta do Vallado
Duoro, Portugal
Citrus Gold
This is white Port with brightness, perfume and a lovely lift. Made from 80% Moscatel Galego (Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains) and 20% mixed white varieties, it opens with orange blossom, lemon peel, white peach and apricot, followed by crystallised orange, honeyed citrus and a gentle floral note. It is sweet, but fresh rather than heavy, with the Moscatel bringing fragrance and charm.
The palate is smooth, rounded and finely balanced, with candied orange, citrus peel, ripe stone fruit and a long, delicate finish. Three years in stainless steel keep the style clean and fruit-led, rather than nutty or oxidative. Serve it well chilled as an aperitif, with dessert, or as a white Port and tonic with plenty of ice, good tonic and a slice of orange.
For when you want something sweet, bright and properly Portuguese.
Pairs with salted almonds, blue cheese, hard cheeses, orange tart, custard desserts, fruit cake, or a sunny Port and tonic.
If this wine were… a colour, it would be polished gold with a twist of orange peel.
Quinta do Vallado is one of the Douro Valley’s historic estates, established in 1716 near Peso da Régua and once part of the Ferreira family story. For nearly two centuries, Vallado produced Port for Casa Ferreira before building its own identity around both Port and Douro table wines. Today, the estate combines deep Douro heritage with a modern, precise approach, and this White Port shows that balance beautifully: fragrant Moscatel-led fruit, free-run fermentation, three years in stainless steel and a fresh, citrus-led style.
This wine is made from predominantly Moscatel Galego Branco, which is a synonym for Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, recognised as an elegant and fragrant variety with delicate complexity.
