2 Bottle Gift Box of 2020 Pesquera Reserva

Ribera del Duero, Spain

The 2020 Pesquera Reserva is a masterclass in balance and depth. The nose unfurls with aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, cedar, and cigar box, layered with hints of violet, graphite, and sweet spice. On the palate, it’s poised and powerful, dense, velvety Tempranillo fruit framed by supple tannins and the gentle polish of 24 months in oak. The finish lingers with notes of dark chocolate, tobacco leaf, and a savoury minerality that anchors its long, elegant close. This is classic Ribera del Duero: vibrant yet refined, rich yet remarkably fresh.

For when: the candles are lit and the decanter’s breathing.
Pairs with: roast lamb, confit duck, or anything that deserves your best glassware.

Presented in a two-bottle gift box, this edition celebrates the enduring artistry of Tinto Pesquera, the original jewel in Alejandro Fernández’s crown. Since 1972, the Pesquera estate has embodied the essence of Ribera del Duero, crafting wines of structure, warmth, and timeless appeal. The 2020 vintage captures that legacy with remarkable grace, a bottle (or two) that speaks of tradition, patience, and the quiet confidence of Spanish excellence.

Few names command as much respect in Spanish winemaking as Alejandro Fernández. Often hailed as “the father of modern Ribera del Duero,” his vision transformed Spain’s wine landscape, elevating Tempranillo from rustic country red to a symbol of elegance and international acclaim. In 1972, Fernández founded Tinto Pesquera, restoring an old 16th-century stone winery in the town of Pesquera de Duero. From these humble beginnings, he set out to craft wines of purity, structure, and finesse, wines that captured the soul of the Castilian plateau.

Over the decades, the estate’s success inspired a broader family of wineries united under the Grupo Pesquera name. Each one reflects a distinct terroir and personality, but all are guided by the same unwavering philosophy: meticulous vineyard care, patient ageing in oak, and a deep respect for Tempranillo. Condado de Haza embodies the classic power of Ribera del Duero from its sweeping single estate; El Vínculo, in La Mancha, channels the sunlit warmth and generosity of central Spain; and Dehesa La Granja, in Zamora, expresses a wilder, earthier edge, marked by depth and authenticity.

Today, under the stewardship of the Fernández family, Grupo Pesquera continues to honour Alejandro’s legacy, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. Their wines remain a benchmark of Spanish excellence: rich yet balanced, rooted in the land, and unmistakably shaped by one man’s relentless pursuit of perfection.
