1270 Cognac, Frapin, 70cl (Gift Box)

Cognac, France

Golden Fleur

Fragrant and finely poised, Frapin 1270 opens with vine blossom and linden flowers, followed by delicate vanilla and warm toast. The floral character gives it an appealing lightness of touch, while Limousin oak brings gentle spice and depth. Golden in the glass, this is an expressive Grande Champagne Cognac with an inviting balance of fragrance and warmth.

The palate is supple and rounded, carrying its richness with finesse through a lingering finish of vanilla and toasted bread. Distillation on the fine lees contributes texture and persistence, making it satisfying to sip neat and equally suited to a carefully mixed cocktail. Presented in a 70cl gift box, it makes a thoughtful introduction to Frapin’s estate-grown Cognacs, ready to enjoy without further ageing.

For when: The coffee cups are cleared, but nobody is ready to leave.

Pairs with: Apple tarte tatin, pear and almond tart, vanilla crème brûlée, toasted hazelnut financiers, milk chocolate truffles or mature Comté.

The name 1270 honours the year the Frapin family settled around Segonzac. Every stage of production takes place on the family estate in Grande Champagne, Cognac’s Premier Cru, giving this bottling a direct connection to the vineyards and generations of expertise behind it.

Frapin’s roots in south-west France stretch back to 1270, with 21 generations of family involvement in vine growing and distilling. Based at Château Fontpinot in Segonzac, the house remains family-owned and produces its Cognacs entirely from its own estate.
The vineyard covers 240 hectares within Grande Champagne. Chalk and limestone soils help regulate water availability, while the region’s oceanic influence moderates growing conditions. Ugni Blanc provides the naturally acidic, relatively low-alcohol wines that form the foundation of Frapin’s fragrant eaux-de-vie.
Cellar master Patrice Piveteau oversees a style shaped by distillation on the lees, patient oak maturation and careful blending. The estate also holds Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3 certification, recognising its work to protect biodiversity and manage its environmental impact.

Frapin 1270 begins with estate-grown Ugni Blanc from Grande Champagne. After harvesting and pressing, the juice ferments in tanks to produce the base wine for distillation.
The wine is double-distilled on its fine lees in traditional Charentais copper pot stills. Retaining these fermentation lees during distillation is a defining part of Frapin’s approach, contributing aromatic richness, roundness and length.
The eaux-de-vie mature on the estate in Limousin oak, including time in new barrels, which develops the Cognac’s golden colour and vanilla and toast nuances. Blending creates the finished non-vintage style, bottled at 40% alcohol.
Alcohol: 40%. Bottle size: 70cl. Vegetarian and vegan.
