This is cool-climate Viognier with perfume, freshness and a beautifully polished feel. White peach and ripe pear lead the nose, lifted by apricot, heather, orange blossom and a gentle floral spice. It has the natural generosity of Viognier, but Creation’s Hemel-en-Aarde freshness keeps it bright, graceful and far from heavy.

On the palate, it is dry, smooth and expressive, with juicy stone fruit, soft pear and a clean mineral line through the finish. The texture is rounded enough to feel satisfying, while the acidity keeps everything lively and food-friendly. A brilliant bottle for anyone who wants a white with more aroma and softness than Sauvignon Blanc, but still plenty of freshness and poise.

Creation was the first estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde to plant Viognier, and this wine shows why the variety works so well here. The cool maritime climate and high ridge setting help preserve acidity and aromatic lift, giving a style that is floral and gently textured without becoming oily or overripe. Creation is one of the standout estates of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, in South Africa’s Walker Bay region. Founded in 2002 by Swiss-born winemaker Jean-Claude Martin and South African Carolyn Martin, the estate was established on previously unplanted land high in the cool coastal hills near Hermanus.

The vineyards benefit from ancient soils, cooling Atlantic influence and marked day-to-night temperature shifts, giving the wines freshness, aromatic detail and natural balance. While Creation is especially admired for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, its wider range shows the same thoughtful approach: careful vineyard work, gentle cellar handling and a focus on wines that feel expressive but never overdone.

The estate has built a reputation for polished, food-friendly wines with clarity and confidence. For customers, Creation offers South African wine with real precision: modern, elegant, consistent and deeply connected to its cool-climate setting.

The 2025 Viognier is 100% Viognier from the Cape South Coast, made in a fresh, dry style that keeps the grape’s natural aromatics clear and lifted. Creation’s cool maritime setting helps preserve acidity, giving the wine brightness and balance alongside its peach, pear and apricot character.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with no malolactic fermentation, preserving freshness and keeping the profile clean rather than creamy or heavy. The wine then spends around 2 to 3 months on its lees, adding a little texture and roundness without blurring the fruit.

The result is fragrant, smooth and ready to enjoy, with ripe peach, pear, heather and a touch of apricot carried by a fresh mineral finish. It has enough softness for lightly spiced dishes and roast chicken, but the acidity keeps it bright enough for fish, shellfish and aperitif drinking. Alcohol is 13.5%, residual sugar is under 3g/l and acidity is 5.5g/l.
