2025 The Wolftrap White, Boekenhoutskloof

, South Africa

Cape Bloom

The Wolftrap White 2025 is a bright, aromatic Cape blend with a story as charming as the wine itself. Viognier leads with peach melba, honeysuckle and ripe stone fruit, Chenin Blanc brings pear, crisp apple and fresh acidity, while Grenache Blanc adds yellow plum, citrus lift and a gentle herbal edge. It is generous, fragrant and immediately inviting.

On the palate, it is lush but balanced, with creamy texture, tropical fruit and a zesty, refreshing finish. There is enough richness to make it feel satisfying, but the citrus line keeps it clean and food-friendly. This is the kind of white that over-delivers with real ease: sunny, aromatic, polished and dangerously drinkable.

For when
The fridge needs a white that can handle everything from Friday night curry to Sunday lunch.

Pairs with
Seafood, Thai green curry, roast chicken, creamy cheeses, grilled prawns, sushi, spiced pork, lemony salads or vegetable tempura.

The Wolftrap is crafted at Boekenhoutskloof, the historic Franschhoek estate established in 1776. Its name recalls the early pioneers who ventured into the Cape wilderness and built a wolf trap on the property. No wolf, real or mythical, has ever been found in the valley, but the legend remains. This white captures the easy brilliance of the range: Rhône-inspired, full of character and made with the kind of polish that has made Boekenhoutskloof one of South Africa’s most trusted names.

Boekenhoutskloof is one of South Africa’s most recognisable and respected wine names, based in the remote corner of the Franschhoek Valley and originally established in 1776. The modern estate rose to prominence under the direction of Marc Kent, whose maverick spirit, technical confidence and commitment to quality helped turn Boekenhoutskloof into a benchmark Cape producer. The winery is now known across several successful ranges, from the fine-wine Boekenhoutskloof labels to The Chocolate Block, Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap.

The Wolftrap is the estate’s most accessible and playful expression, but it still carries serious winemaking intent. Inspired by the legend of a wolf trap discovered on the farm, the range offers Rhône-influenced blends with bright fruit, generous flavour and everyday charm. For customers, the appeal is simple: this is a bottle with a brilliant backstory, made by one of South Africa’s best-known producers, and priced for generous pouring.

The 2025 The Wolftrap White is a blend of Viognier, Chenin Blanc and Grenache Blanc. Viognier provides the aromatic core, bringing ripe peach, honeysuckle and stone-fruit richness. Chenin Blanc gives the wine freshness, acidity and orchard-fruit lift, while Grenache Blanc adds yellow plum, citrus brightness, mineral tension and a subtle herbal note.

The majority of the fruit comes from the Swartland, a region well suited to full-flavoured, textural white blends. The 2025 Western Cape growing season was mild and dry, with cool early-summer conditions supporting steady ripening. Sunshine before harvest helped develop flavour and phenolic maturity, while the overall balance of the vintage preserved bright acidity and fresh fruit definition.

The wine is made to be expressive, polished and immediately enjoyable, with a creamy, textured palate and a clean, zesty finish. Technical figures for the 2025 release include 13.4% alcohol, 3.12 g/l residual sugar, 4.85 g/l total acidity and a pH of 3.60.
