2025 Malbec 'Raices', Andeluna

Mendoza, Argentina

Andeluna’s 2025 Raíces Malbec is Mendoza charm with a mountain breeze running through it. Bright, plush and immediately appealing, it opens with ripe plum, blueberry, blackberry, violet and a little raspberry lift, with just enough spice to keep everything moving.

On the palate, it is soft, fruity and fresh, with smooth tannins, generous dark fruit and a clean, easy finish. This is not a heavy, over-oaked Malbec. It is more about purity, softness and drinkability, making it a brilliant choice for weeknight steaks, slow-cooked comfort food or anyone who wants Argentinian Malbec with fruit, balance and no fuss.

The grill is on, the glass is large, and nobody wants to overthink it.

Steak, lamb chops, beef stew, roast pork, mushroom burgers, smoky aubergine, empanadas, hard cheese or peppered sausages.

Andeluna is based in Tupungato, in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, one of Argentina’s most exciting high-altitude wine regions. The name combines the Andes and the moon, a nod to the dramatic mountain landscape that frames the vineyards. Raíces means “roots”, and this wine does exactly what the name suggests: it goes straight to the heart of modern Mendoza Malbec, with ripe fruit, floral lift, soft tannins and easy, mountain-fresh appeal.

Andeluna is a Mendoza producer based in Tupungato, in the Uco Valley, at the foot of the Andes. Founded in 2003, the winery has built its reputation around expressive mountain wines that combine ripe Argentinian fruit with freshness, balance and modern precision. The name brings together “Ande”, for the Andes, and “Luna”, the moon, capturing the dramatic landscape that defines the estate.

The winery works in one of Argentina’s most celebrated regions for high-altitude viticulture. Cool nights, bright sunlight, low humidity and poor soils all help build concentration while preserving aromatic lift and acidity. This is why Andeluna’s wines can feel generous without becoming heavy.

Raíces is the approachable, fruit-forward side of the range, made to show Malbec’s natural charm rather than oak or winemaking weight. It is soft, floral, dark-fruited and immediately likeable, but still carries the freshness and definition that make Uco Valley reds so appealing.

The 2025 Raíces Malbec is made from 100% Malbec grown in Mendoza, with fruit sourced from vineyards in the Uco Valley at around 700 metres above sea level. The climate is warm and dry, with very low humidity, helping produce healthy grapes with concentrated flavour. Poor soils encourage the vine roots to dig deep for water and nutrients, while careful pruning and canopy management help keep yields low.

The vines are espalier-trained and irrigated in furrows. The vineyards are cultivated sustainably, with attention to biodiversity and long-term soil health. Grapes are carefully selected, destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at around 26°C, using both natural and selected yeasts.

The wine is made in a youthful, fruit-driven style. After fermentation, it spends around two months in stainless steel, preserving Malbec’s fresh plum, blueberry, floral notes and soft tannins. The result is a bright, smooth and accessible Mendoza red with 13% alcohol, a screwcap closure and vegan suitability.
