Founded in 1919, La Scolca is one of the estates most closely associated with the modern success of Gavi. The Soldati family recognised the potential of Cortese at a time when Piedmont was far better known for red wine, and more than a century of specialisation has helped turn Gavi into one of Italy’s most recognisable white wine appellations.

The estate’s vineyards are centred around Rovereto Superiore, an elevated area within the commune of Gavi long regarded as one of the appellation’s finest growing zones. Careful vineyard management and precise cellar work allow Cortese’s natural freshness, delicate perfume and subtly mineral character to remain at the centre of every bottle.

White Label is La Scolca’s youthful, traditional expression of Gavi. It is brighter and more immediate than the estate’s celebrated Black Label, offering a pure, very dry style designed for aperitifs, seafood and relaxed drinking. It is also an excellent introduction to both the producer and the grape.

Still owned by the Soldati family and approaching its fifth generation, La Scolca continues to balance deep local knowledge with modern precision.

Made entirely from Cortese grown in younger hillside vineyards around Rovereto Superiore di Gavi. Vineyard yields are kept below eight tonnes per hectare, preserving freshness while giving the wine sufficient concentration and flavour.

The wine is made using traditional methods with temperature control, fermenting in stainless steel to retain Cortese’s citrus, orchard-fruit and floral character. No oak is used, keeping the finished style bright, precise and immediately approachable.

The wine is released from February following the harvest and has an alcohol level of 12%. Serve well chilled at around 12 to 14°C.
