2025 Estate Pinot Gris, Kumeu River
Auckland, New Zealand
Ripe white peach, apricot and juicy pear unfold into honeysuckle, yellow flowers and a subtle thread of ginger and honey. This is an expressive, beautifully proportioned Pinot Gris, with a richer, more assured personality than the lighter Village bottling.
The palate is generous and mouthfilling, yet lively acidity keeps every mouthful fresh. Succulent stone fruit, gentle sweetness and delicate spice flow into a long, textured finish with just enough grip for the table. Rich without becoming heavy, it shows how compelling Pinot Gris can be when treated as a serious wine.
For when: Dinner needs a white with the presence to carry the whole evening.
Pairs with: Chilli prawns, Thai red curry, roast chicken, seared scallops, creamy pasta or pork with ginger.
The 2025 season in Kumeu was warm, remarkably dry and free from significant heat extremes. Steady ripening and moderate yields produced fruit with concentrated aromas, flavour and texture. All of Kumeu River’s Pinot Gris comes from Kumeu, where clay-rich soils over sandstone retain moisture and help the vines maintain balance through the summer.
