This is classic cool-climate Constantia Sauvignon Blanc with tropical lift, citrus brightness and a clean mineral edge. Guava, litchi and kiwi lead the nose, followed by lemongrass, lime, fresh grass and a subtle herbal snap. The small touch of Semillon adds gentle texture, while the Atlantic influence keeps the wine crisp, fresh and beautifully defined.

On the palate, it is dry, vivid and refreshing, with ripe tropical fruit, bright acidity and a long, clean finish. There is more weight and polish here than a simple Sauvignon, but it still has all the energy you want from the style. A brilliant South African white for seafood, salads and anyone who loves Sauvignon Blanc with freshness, clarity and coastal character.

Groot Constantia’s Sauvignon Blanc comes from one of South Africa’s most historic wine estates, but the style is bright, modern and instantly appealing. The Constantia vineyards benefit from cooling Atlantic breezes, south to south-east-facing slopes and granitic soils, giving the wine its balance of tropical fruit, citrus tension and mineral freshness. It is heritage in name, but pure refreshment in the glass.

Groot Constantia is one of the great names of South African wine. Founded in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, it is widely recognised as South Africa’s oldest wine-producing farm, with an unbroken winemaking history that stretches back more than three centuries. Set in the Constantia Valley, close to Cape Town and the Atlantic Ocean, the estate combines historic Cape architecture, old wine culture and a serious modern cellar.

The property is especially famous for its role in South Africa’s wine heritage, but it is not just a museum piece. Groot Constantia continues to produce a broad range of estate wines, from crisp Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to structured reds and its celebrated sweet wine, Grand Constance. The estate is also a WWF Conservation Champion, reflecting a commitment to responsible farming, biodiversity and long-term care for the land.

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of 91% Sauvignon Blanc and 9% Semillon from Groot Constantia’s vineyards in Constantia, Western Cape. The sites sit between 100 and 240m above sea level on south to south-east-facing slopes, with soils ranging from deep red clay to red-brown loam, both of granitic origin. Constantia’s Mediterranean climate is moderated by cool Atlantic breezes, helping preserve freshness and aromatic intensity.

The grapes were hand-picked early in the morning from the start of February to early March, then crushed and destemmed into the press for a short period of skin contact. Only the free-run juice was used. Fermentation took place in stainless steel at cool temperatures of 12 to 14°C, followed by six months on the lees before racking, fining, stabilisation and bottling.

The result is fresh, aromatic and ready to drink, with guava, litchi, kiwi, lemongrass and citrus carried by bright natural acidity. The Semillon adds a little breadth, while the lees ageing gives the wine polish without taking away its crisp coastal energy. Alcohol is 14.16%, residual sugar is 2.1g/l, total acidity is 6.2g/l and pH is 3.24.
