2024 Sancerre ‘Cuvée Florès’, Domaine Vincent Pinard

Loire Valley, France

Chalk Bloom

Domaine Vincent Pinard’s 2024 Cuvée Florès is Sancerre with brightness, clarity and a beautifully chiselled mineral line. Grown around Bué, one of the appellation’s great villages, it opens with lime, grapefruit, mandarin peel and white flowers, followed by chalk dust, citrus blossom and a subtle saline edge.

On the palate, it is vivid, pure and finely drawn, with crisp Sauvignon Blanc fruit carried by a clean limestone snap. There is energy here, but also texture, giving the wine more depth than a simple citrus-led Sancerre. The finish is long, floral and stony, with that cool, mouth-watering freshness that makes great Loire Sauvignon feel effortless.

For when
The seafood is cold, the glass is crisp, and lunch suddenly feels very civilised.

Pairs with
Oysters, crab, prawns, goat’s cheese, asparagus, smoked trout, sushi, grilled sea bass, lemon chicken or fresh herb salads.

Domaine Vincent Pinard is one of the benchmark names of Sancerre, based in Bué and now guided by Florent and Clément Pinard. Florès is a brilliant introduction to the domaine’s style: precise, floral, mineral and quietly intense, with enough generosity to charm but the tension to remind you this is serious Loire Sauvignon from a serious address.

Domaine Vincent Pinard is one of Sancerre’s most admired family domaines, rooted in the village of Bué, just outside Sancerre itself. The family’s connection to wine in the area reaches back generations, and the modern domaine has become a reference point for Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grown on the limestone and clay-limestone slopes that make Bué so prized.

Today the estate is run by Vincent’s sons, Florent and Clément Pinard, who have taken an already respected name and pushed it into the top tier of the appellation. Their approach combines meticulous vineyard work, low yields, organic and biodynamic principles, indigenous yeasts and gentle handling in the cellar. The wines are known for their purity, texture and quiet intensity rather than overt showiness.

Florès is one of the clearest routes into the Pinard style: floral, mineral, crystalline and deeply connected to place. It gives customers the confidence of a great Sancerre name, while still offering the immediate pleasure and freshness that make the appellation so loved.

Cuvée Florès 2024 is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown around Bué, on classic Sancerre caillottes: limestone-rich, stony soils with calcareous subsoils. These soils are central to the wine’s floral profile, chalky texture and saline mineral finish. Vineyard work is carried out with organic and biodynamic principles, with no herbicides and careful soil cultivation.

The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates, then gently handled in the cellar. The wine is made with a long pneumatic pressing and fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Sulphur use is kept low, with none added to the musts, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration, so a light natural deposit may appear.

Ageing takes place on the lees for around 7 to 9 months in wooden vats, building texture and depth while preserving the wine’s bright Sauvignon Blanc character. The 2024 vintage was marked by very low yields, giving a fresh, taut and terroir-driven expression with pronounced salinity, citrus energy and mineral length.
