2024 Pinot Noir, Elena Walch, 1 Bottle Gift Box

Trentino, Alto Adige, Italy

Alpine Ruby

Bright, fragrant and effortlessly graceful, Elena Walch’s Pinot Noir captures the charm of red berries ripened in mountain sunshine. Cherry and raspberry lead the aromas, with a delicate thread of white pepper and gentle spice adding a savoury dimension. The fruit feels fresh and clearly defined, revealing an expressive northern Italian Pinot with an inviting lightness of touch.

Juicy and supple, the palate brings together vibrant red fruit, soft, velvety tannins and refreshing acidity. There is enough structure to give the wine substance, while its smooth texture and elegant finish make it immediately appealing. Delicious now, with the potential to develop further over several years, it rewards anyone who enjoys fragrant reds with finesse. Presented in a single-bottle gift box, it makes a thoughtful introduction to Alto Adige Pinot Noir or a welcome discovery for an established enthusiast.

For when: A thoughtful gift calls for something quietly special.

Pairs with: Serve with roast duck breast, mushroom risotto, pork tenderloin with thyme, grilled salmon, roast chicken with wild mushrooms or a caramelised shallot tart.

Known in Italy as Pinot Nero, Pinot Noir thrives in Alto Adige’s combination of sunny days and cooling mountain influences. Elena Walch blends fruit from warmer vineyards around 400 metres with grapes grown at elevations reaching 950 metres. This interplay brings together ripe flavour and lively freshness, giving the wine its distinctive balance of generosity and elegance.

Elena Walch stands among the true visionaries of Alto Adige, a region where the Alps meet the Mediterranean and precision meets poise. An architect by training, Elena brought a designer’s eye and a pioneer’s spirit to her husband’s historic family estate in Tramin during the 1980s, transforming it into one of Italy’s most respected names in fine wine. Today, the estate remains family-run, led by Elena and her daughters, Julia and Karoline, who carry forward a philosophy rooted in authenticity, sustainability, and an unwavering respect for place.

Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand and carefully selected from south-east and south-west-facing vineyards on limestone and porphyry soils. Fruit from warmer sites around 400 metres is combined with grapes from higher vineyards reaching 950 metres, balancing ripeness with freshness.

Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for approximately ten days. The wine subsequently undergoes malolactic fermentation, contributing to its rounded, supple palate.

Maturation takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large, 2,200-litre oak casks. This approach supports the wine’s gentle texture while keeping its cherry and raspberry character at the forefront. The estate suggests an ageing potential of five to seven years, although its soft tannins and expressive fruit make it enjoyable now.

Alcohol: 13%. Residual sugar: 2.7g/L. Total acidity: 5.5g/L. Recommended drinking window: 2026–2031.
