2024 Pinot Grigio, Elena Walch, 2 Bottle Gift Box

Trentino, Alto Adige, Italy

Dolomite Duo

Elegant, fragrant and full of northern Italian charm, Elena Walch’s Pinot Grigio combines ripe pear with delicate floral notes, white pepper and a subtle touch of sage. Its inviting orchard fruit is framed by a gently savoury, mineral character, giving the wine definition and depth. This two-bottle gift box brings together two bottles of the same expressive Alto Adige white, making a thoughtful present for someone who appreciates Pinot Grigio with personality.

Dry and smoothly textured, the palate has a rounded generosity balanced by crisp acidity and an appetising saline edge. Several months on the fine lees bring a delicate silkiness, while pear and gentle spice linger through the refreshing finish. Beautifully approachable now, with the balance to develop over the next couple of years, it offers both immediate enjoyment and enough detail to reward a second look. One bottle to open together, another to enjoy later.

For when: A favourite white deserves an encore.

Pairs with: Serve with grilled sea bream and lemon, crab linguine, courgette and ricotta ravioli, roast chicken with sage, smoked trout pâté or a classic cheese fondue.

The gift box contains two 75cl bottles of 2024 Elena Walch Pinot Grigio, Alto Adige DOC. Sourced from steep vineyards between 250 and 900 metres above sea level, the wine combines the generosity of warmer slopes with the freshness of cooler mountain sites. Limestone-rich soils, varied elevations and cooling Alpine influences help shape its distinctive balance of ripe fruit and mineral definition.

Elena Walch is a family estate based in Tramin, in the heart of Alto Adige. Originally an architect, Elena married into an established local wine family and brought a fresh perspective to its vineyards and cellar. Her commitment to quality helped establish the estate as a leading name in northern Italy, recognised for wines that combine expressive fruit with elegance and precision.

The family’s vineyards benefit from Alto Adige’s meeting of Mediterranean warmth and Alpine conditions. Varied elevations, cooling mountain air and contrasting soils create opportunities for a broad range of grape varieties. Its celebrated sites include Vigna Castel Ringberg above Lake Caldaro and the steep, south-facing Vigna Kastelaz overlooking Tramin, each cultivated to highlight its individual character.

Today, daughters Julia and Karoline lead the business as the fifth generation of the family. Meticulous vineyard work sits alongside a practical commitment to sustainability, including composting, encouraging biodiversity, targeted irrigation and lighter bottles. The estate received VIVA sustainability certification in 2024, recognising an approach that extends across vineyard management, cellar operations and packaging.

Made from 100% Pinot Grigio, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand from steep, south-east and south-west-facing vineyards at elevations of 250–900 metres. The soils are predominantly calcareous, with clay, sand and porphyry components. Combining fruit from cooler high-altitude sites and warmer vineyards helps balance aromatic freshness with ripe flavour and body.

The grapes are carefully crushed and gently pressed. The juice is clarified by settling at low temperatures before fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled 20°C, retaining the grape’s delicate fruit and herbal character.

Maturation continues for several months in stainless steel on the fine lees, adding texture and depth while preserving freshness. The wine is approachable on release, with a suggested ageing potential of three to four years from the vintage.

Alcohol: 13%. Residual sugar: 1.8g/L. Total acidity: 5.4g/L. Recommended drinking window: 2026–2028
