2024 Petit Chablis, Domaine Sébastien Dampt

Petit Chablis, Burgundy,

Chalk Snap

Bright, precise and full of cool Chablis energy, this Petit Chablis is a clean, citrus-led expression of Chardonnay from the hills around Milly. Lemon peel, green apple, white flowers and a touch of pear come through first, followed by wet stone, chalk and a salty mineral edge. It is fresh and direct, but not thin, with a purity that makes it feel more serious than the word “Petit” suggests.

On the palate, it is crisp, dry and beautifully focused, with lively acidity, fine lees texture and a clean mineral finish. Stainless-steel ageing keeps the wine bright and unoaked, while time on fine lees adds just enough weight to make it satisfying. This is a smart buy for customers who want proper Chablis character at a more accessible level: fresh, elegant, seafood-ready and easy to love.

For when: A seafood lunch needs something crisp, mineral and effortlessly refreshing.

Pairs with: Oysters, prawns, crab, grilled white fish, goat’s cheese, lemon chicken, sushi, green salads or gougères.

Domaine Sébastien Dampt’s Petit Chablis matters because it gives customers a direct route into the Dampt family’s clean, mineral style without needing to reach for premier cru pricing. From a small parcel above Milly, it captures the cool, stony freshness that makes Chablis so distinctive, with enough texture to feel complete and enough snap to keep every glass lively.

Domaine Sébastien Dampt is based in Milly, just outside Chablis, in one of the most recognisable Chardonnay landscapes in the world. Sébastien comes from the wider Dampt family of Chablis growers and created his own domaine in 2007 after returning to the family estate, building a focused range across Petit Chablis, Chablis and premier cru sites.

The domaine is compact, precise and very Chablisien in spirit. The wines are shaped around stainless steel, purity of fruit and the mineral tension that defines the region, rather than obvious oak or weight. This makes them especially appealing for customers who want freshness, clarity and a clean sense of place.

Sébastien Dampt is trusted because his wines deliver the essentials of Chablis with confidence: citrus, stone, salt, freshness and drinkability. The Petit Chablis is the most accessible expression, but it still carries the family’s serious, careful approach and the cool, chalky character that makes the region so loved.

The 2024 Petit Chablis is made from 100% Chardonnay. The fruit comes from a small 0.30-hectare vineyard on the plateau overlooking Milly, with vines around 10 years old. The wine is listed at 12% alcohol, and the exact-vintage listing confirms sulphites and vegan status.

The grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press, then the must is settled for 12 hours at 12 to 15°C. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel for around 15 days at 20°C, using selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is completed, and the wine is then aged for 6 to 8 months on fine lees in stainless steel before filtration and low-pressure bottling.

The result is a Petit Chablis that tastes fresh, citrusy and mineral now, with green apple, lemon, chalk and a clean salty finish. The stainless-steel ageing keeps the fruit bright, while lees contact adds a little texture and polish. It is ready to drink now and especially strong with seafood, offering the snap and clarity customers expect from Chablis in a very approachable form.
