2024 Morgon ‘La Chanaise’, Maison Piron
Beaujolais, France
Granite Cherry
Ripe cherry, raspberry and black plum lead the aroma, joined by dried herbs, hibiscus, black tea and a subtle twist of citrus peel. Beneath the generous fruit lies a savoury mineral note, giving this lively Gamay the depth and seriousness expected of Morgon.
Juicy and medium-bodied, with supple red and black fruit framed by fine, powdery tannins. Fresh acidity brings energy, while peppery spice and crushed-stone minerality shape a firm, persistent finish. Deliciously accessible now, but with enough structure to develop further over the next few years.
For when: An uncomplicated supper calls for a seriously good bottle of Beaujolais.
Pairs with: Charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled pork, Toulouse sausages, mushroom tart, grilled salmon or Brie.
La Chanaise is Maison Piron’s historic Morgon cuvée, made from mature Gamay vines rooted in the cru’s ancient granite and iron-rich schist. It combines the bright fruit and immediate pleasure of Beaujolais with the savoury detail, structure and mineral character that distinguish Morgon.
