2024 Meursault Village, Domaine Patrick Javillier

Meursault, Burgundy, France

The Golden Middle

Generous, polished and unmistakably Meursault, this opens with ripe pear, white peach and baked apple, layered with lemon curd, hazelnut, ground almond and lightly toasted brioche. A subtle flinty note runs beneath the fruit, bringing definition to the wine’s richer, more comforting side.

The palate is broad and silky, with concentrated orchard fruit and gentle creaminess balanced by fresh citrus acidity and a savoury mineral grip. Finely integrated oak brings notes of spice and toasted nuts without overwhelming the Chardonnay. Rounded, elegant and beautifully composed, it finishes long and fresh with lingering pear, lemon and crushed stone.

For when: You want classic white Burgundy that feels luxurious without being showy.

Pairs with: Roast chicken, grilled turbot, scallops, pork in a mustard cream sauce, truffled pasta, mushroom risotto or mature Comté.

Bottled without a single-vineyard designation, this cuvée offers a rounded introduction to the distinctive style of Meursault. It balances the appellation’s characteristic richness and nutty complexity with the freshness, mineral structure and precision that define the wines of Domaine Patrick Javillier.

Domaine Patrick Javillier is a family-run estate based in Meursault, with approximately 11 hectares of vineyards spread across five communes of the Côte de Beaune. The domaine’s modern story began in 1945, when Raymond Javillier returned from the war and took responsibility for two hectares of family vines. His son Patrick joined after completing his national diploma in oenology and oversaw his first harvest in 1974.

Patrick gradually expanded the estate through the 1980s and early 1990s, building an impressive collection of parcels in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. Chardonnay remains at the heart of the domaine, with its wines admired for combining classic Burgundian generosity with freshness, precision and clear vineyard character.

The next generation now plays a central role. Patrick’s daughter Marion oversees the red wines and commercial side of the domaine, while Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy manages the vineyards and white-wine production. Every parcel is treated individually, reflecting the family’s thoughtful and meticulous approach to both vineyard and cellar.

The 2024 Meursault Village is made entirely from Chardonnay grown within the Meursault appellation. The grapes were harvested by hand, carefully sorted and gently pressed before the juice was allowed to settle.

Fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts and was followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine was matured in oak, with the proportion of new barrels carefully adjusted to suit the character of the fruit and vintage. Extended ageing on the fine lees developed texture and complexity while preserving freshness.

Total maturation lasted approximately 16 to 18 months, with bâtonnage used selectively according to the development of the wine. It was bottled at the domaine with minimal fining and filtration.

100% Chardonnay. Alcohol: 13%. Recommended drinking: 2026 to 2036. Serve at 11 to 13°C.
