2024 Meursault Les Tillets, Domaine Patrick Javillier

Meursault, Burgundy, France

Limestone Lift

Lifted, luminous and beautifully precise, Les Tillets opens with lime blossom, elderflower and white peach, layered with lemon curd, crisp pear and a delicate touch of white pepper. Subtle notes of toasted almond, struck stone and finely judged oak add complexity without distracting from the purity of the fruit.

The palate is energetic and finely sculpted, with ripe orchard fruit carried by bright citrus acidity and a distinct saline backbone. There is enough richness to make it unmistakably Meursault, but the vineyard’s altitude and limestone soils bring an almost Puligny-like sense of tension and clarity. Long, persistent and gracefully mineral, this is a particularly elegant expression of the village.

For when: You want Meursault with more precision than weight.

Pairs with: Grilled turbot, scallops, roast chicken, crab, poached salmon, mushroom risotto or mature Comté.

Les Tillets sits high on the slope above Meursault, close to the woodland at around 350 metres. The domaine’s 1.7 hectares are divided across seven south-east-facing parcels, where vines aged between approximately 30 and 70 years grow in thin, rocky limestone soils with patches of clay. The elevated position naturally produces a cooler, more floral and mineral style of Meursault.

Domaine Patrick Javillier is a family-run estate based in Meursault, with approximately 11 hectares of vineyards spread across five communes of the Côte de Beaune. The domaine’s modern story began in 1945, when Raymond Javillier returned from the war and took responsibility for two hectares of family vines. His son Patrick joined after completing his national diploma in oenology and oversaw his first harvest in 1974.

Patrick gradually expanded the estate through the 1980s and early 1990s, building an impressive collection of parcels in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. Chardonnay remains at the heart of the domaine, with its wines admired for combining classic Burgundian texture with freshness, precision and clear vineyard character.

The next generation now plays a central role. Patrick’s daughter Marion oversees the red wines and commercial side of the domaine, while Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy manages the vineyards and white-wine production. Every parcel is harvested, vinified and matured individually, allowing the character of each site to remain clearly expressed in the finished wine.

The 2024 Les Tillets is made entirely from Chardonnay grown across seven individual parcels within the vineyard. Harvest dates were determined separately for each plot, with the grapes carefully sorted before pressing and settling.

Fermentation took place in French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and was followed by malolactic fermentation. Approximately 30% new oak was used, bringing texture and gentle spice while allowing the vineyard’s floral, citrus and mineral character to remain at the forefront.

The wine matured for approximately 16 to 18 months on its fine lees. Bâtonnage was used selectively according to the character of the vintage, building depth without sacrificing freshness. Bottling took place at the domaine with minimal fining and filtration.
