2024 'Mariana' White, Herdade do Rocim

Alentejo, Portugal

Herdade do Rocim’s 2024 Mariana White is a bright, aromatic Alentejo blend with far more freshness than the region’s warm southern latitude might suggest. Antão Vaz brings ripe tropical fruit and body, Arinto adds citrus drive, and Alvarinho gives a floral, lifted edge. Expect pineapple, mango, pear, lime zest and fresh herbs, with a lovely breezy brightness running through it.

On the palate, it is richly flavoured but beautifully balanced, with juicy fruit, gentle texture and a crisp citrus finish. The wine has enough roundness to feel generous, but the cool Vidigueira influence keeps it lively, clean and refreshing. A smart Portuguese white for anyone who wants sunshine in the glass without losing zip.

For when
A sunny lunch needs something aromatic, fresh and quietly different.

Pairs with
Grilled prawns, seafood rice, roast chicken, cod with herbs, fresh cheeses, lemony salads, vegetable tempura or white fish with salsa verde.

Herdade do Rocim is one of Vidigueira’s most compelling modern estates, led by Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro with a clear focus on freshness, native grapes and thoughtful farming. The estate sits on the Vidigueira fault, where Atlantic influence, cooling night air and granitic and schistous soils help bring balance to Alentejo’s generous fruit. Mariana captures that Rocim style beautifully: expressive, polished and rooted in a warmer landscape made bright by altitude, breeze and careful hands.

Herdade do Rocim is an estate located between Vidigueira and Cuba, in the Lower Alentejo. It comprises 120 hectares, 70 of which are made up of vineyards and 10 hectares of olive trees. Since its inception in 2000, Herdade do Rocim has invested heavily in the vineyards, replanting vines and introducing new varieties. They are pioneers in ‘amphora wines’, following the ancient traditions of vinification in pots known as ‘Tahla’. The vineyard is cultivated manually and minimal intervention is used in the cellar, to produce fresh, elegant and mineral wines. In 2018, Herdade do Rocim was awarded Best Wine Producer by Revista de Vinhos.
