2024 Malbec 'Terroir Unico', Zorzal
Gualtallary, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
“Pure Mountain Malbec.”
Born high in the dramatic vineyards of Gualtallary at 1,350 metres above sea level, this Malbec captures the raw clarity and mineral soul of the Andes. Sourced from different parcels to reflect the full diversity of the terroir, it opens with vibrant aromas of ripe black fruits layered with lifted notes of lavender, crushed stone and a subtle gunpowder edge. The altitude, calcium-rich soils, and dramatic day-to-night temperature swings shape a wine of precision and freshness, where fruit, earth and mineral tension exist in perfect balance.
Fermented with native yeasts in concrete and aged briefly in the same vessels, the winemaking preserves purity and energy rather than masking the vineyard’s voice. The palate is juicy and expressive, with rounded tannins giving a supple, flowing texture to the dark fruit core. There is a striking verticality to the structure, fresh acidity, mineral drive and a clean, vibrant finish that speaks clearly of its high-altitude origin. Honest, focused and beautifully poised, it’s Malbec in its most transparent form.
Zorzal is a boutique Argentine winery founded in 2008 by the Michelini brothers, located at the highest reaches of the Uco Valley in Mendoza. Their philosophy centres on minimal intervention and a deep respect for the land, crafting wines that place terroir expression above winemaking influence. Working with high-altitude vineyards in Gualtallary, the estate produces precise, mineral-driven wines that have earned international acclaim for their purity, elegance and authentic sense of place.
