2024 Lioness of Mclaren Vale Shiraz, Dandelion Vineyards
McLaren Vale, Australia
Velvet Roar
Black plum and wild raspberry lead the aroma, joined by violet, cracked pepper, rosemary and dark chocolate. There is plenty of McLaren Vale richness, but the floral and herbal notes bring lift and definition to the wine’s generous dark fruit.
Full-bodied and supple, with ripe blackberry and plum supported by refreshing acidity and firm, dry tannins. Subtle oak brings touches of spice, cocoa and warmth without blunting the fruit. Rich enough to satisfy lovers of classic Australian Shiraz, yet polished and composed enough to avoid feeling heavy.
For when: The barbecue is glowing, and only a proper Shiraz will do.
Pairs with: Chargrilled steak, lamb cutlets, slow-cooked beef, smoky aubergine, venison sausages or mature Cheddar.
Lioness comes from a single vineyard in the foothills of McLaren Vale. Its old Shiraz vines grow in clay loam scattered with ironstone pebbles over the ancient Kurrajong Formation, producing concentrated fruit with depth, spice and a distinctive savoury edge.
