2024 Chenin Blanc, Simonsig Wines
Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa
Cape Zest
This is bright Stellenbosch Chenin with sunshine, freshness and a lovely easy charm. Lemon zest, crisp green apple and yellow peach lead the nose, followed by passion fruit, candied pineapple and a gentle floral lift. It feels vibrant and open, with enough tropical fruit to make it generous, but enough citrus snap to keep it clean and refreshing.
On the palate, it is dry, lively and nicely rounded, with juicy orchard fruit, bright acidity and a lightly creamy texture through the middle. The finish is crisp, balanced and very moreish, making this a brilliant everyday white for anyone who wants something fresher than Chardonnay, softer than Sauvignon and full of South African character.
For when
A fridge-door white needs a little Cape sunshine.
Pairs with
Goat’s cheese salad, steamed mussels, grilled prawns, roast chicken, fish tacos, Thai green curry, beetroot and citrus salad, asparagus or creamy vegetable pasta.
Simonsig has a special relationship with Chenin Blanc. It was the first wine released by founder Frans Malan under the Simonsig label in 1968, back when the grape was widely known in South Africa as Steen. More than five decades later, this bottle still captures what makes Cape Chenin so easy to love: bright fruit, fresh acidity, generous texture and brilliant food appeal.
