2024 Chardonnay 'Terroir Unico', Zorzal
Gualtallary, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
“Mountain Light”
This is Chardonnay with altitude in its bones. The 2024 shows golden tones with flashes of green, then opens not with overt fruit, but with mineral clarity. Think crushed stone, fresh herbs and lemon peel before softer notes of pear and white peach begin to unfold. It feels composed and quietly confident, more about line and energy than richness.
On the palate, it arrives fresh and precise, then broadens gently across the mid-palate, revealing texture without weight. There is no malolactic softness here, just natural acidity carrying citrus, subtle orchard fruit and a clean, chalky edge. Fermented with native yeasts and aged briefly in stainless steel, it stays pure, vertical and beautifully balanced. The finish is medium in length but long in impression, leaving a saline whisper that pulls you straight back for another sip.
For when you want Chardonnay without oak gloss or excess.
Pairs with grilled prawns, ceviche, roast chicken with herbs or anything with a squeeze of lemon.
Zorzal, founded by the Michelini brothers in 2008, sits at 1,350 metres above sea level in Gualtallary at the foot of the Tupungato Volcano. The Terroir Único range reflects their philosophy that the expression is the land. Fruit is harvested from different parcels across their high-altitude vineyards to capture the diversity of calcium-rich soils. With spontaneous fermentation, minimal intervention and no oak influence, Zorzal focuses on austerity, precision and transparency, positioning themselves as one of the leading voices of modern Argentine winemaking.
