2024 Châteauneuf du Pape La Solitude Blanc, Domaine de la Solitude

Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone Valley, France

This is white Châteauneuf-du-Pape with richness, polish and a quietly mineral soul. Peach, pineapple, kumquat and confit citrus rise first, followed by white flowers, brioche, soft spice and a gentle stony edge. It has the generosity you expect from the southern Rhône, but the aromatics stay bright and lifted rather than heavy.

On the palate, it is smooth, rounded and layered, with ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel and a creamy texture carried by fresh mineral drive. Roussanne brings breadth and silk, Clairette adds lift and freshness, while Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc and Picpoul give structure, shape and a clean finish. A serious Rhône white for drinkers who want more depth than Sauvignon, more warmth than Burgundy and plenty of food-loving elegance.

For when
Roast fish deserves the grand white.

Pairs with
Grilled sea bass, turbot with beurre blanc, lobster, scallops, oysters gratin, chicken with cream and herbs, veal, truffled eggs, fish tagine or Comté.

Domaine de la Solitude is one of the historic names of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and its white wine shows a more refined side of the appellation. Built from traditional Rhône white varieties and shaped by organic and biodynamic farming, this cuvée balances southern richness with freshness, minerality and elegance. It is a brilliant choice for anyone who loves full-flavoured white wine with texture, polish and a proper sense of place.

Domaine de la Solitude is one of the most historic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with family roots in the region reaching back to the 15th century. The estate’s story is tied to the Barberini family of Tuscany and to generations of vineyard work in one of France’s most celebrated appellations. Today it is led by Florent Lançon, continuing a long family line with a clear focus on precision, heritage and vineyard expression.

The domaine is based around the La Solitude lieu-dit, close to the famous La Crau plateau, with vineyards shaped by the classic southern Rhône mix of galets roulés, clay, sand and limestone-influenced soils. These conditions help create wines with warmth, structure and unmistakable Châteauneuf character.

In recent years, the estate has moved strongly towards regenerative thinking, biodiversity and careful farming, with organic and biodynamic certification now central to its identity. For customers, Domaine de la Solitude offers genuine heritage without feeling old-fashioned: wines with depth, elegance, balance and a clear sense of place.

The 2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Solitude Blanc is a traditional southern Rhône white blend of 45% Roussanne, 35% Clairette, 15% Grenache Blanc and 5% Bourboulenc and Picpoul. It is certified organic and Demeter biodynamic.

This historic cuvée is rooted in the estate’s long white-wine tradition, with Grenache Blanc from the Crau plateau and Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc and Picpoul from the Vallon de la Solitude. The blend brings together breadth, freshness and mineral definition: Roussanne adds richness and texture, Clairette gives brightness, and the supporting varieties add tension and aromatic lift.

The wine was aged for 10 months in a mix of neutral barrels, foudre and stainless steel, helping build texture and complexity while keeping the fruit and mineral character clear.
