2023 'Sessantaquattro' Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, Poderi Parpinello
Sardinia, Italy
Green apple, lime and green melon lead the aroma, joined by white flowers, bergamot peel and a gentle note of Mediterranean herbs. A salty breeze runs through the fruit, giving this Sardinian Vermentino a distinctly coastal character.
Fresh and vibrant on the palate, yet fuller and more textured than a simple aperitif white. Citrus and crisp orchard fruit are balanced by lively acidity, mineral salinity and a softly rounded texture from lees ageing. The finish is long, clean and unmistakably Italian, with Vermentino’s characteristic touch of almond.
For when: Seafood is on the table, and the sun is still shining.
Pairs with: Grilled prawns, baked sea bass, seafood pasta, tuna and ricotta fritters, vegetable antipasti or roast chicken with lemon and herbs.
Sessantaquattro means “sixty-four” and celebrates 1964, the year Giampaolo Parpinello arrived in Sardinia to begin his career as a winemaker. Made from selected Vermentino grown between Alghero and Sassari, it combines the island’s sunshine with the freshness, salinity and aromatic detail of its coastal vineyards.
