2023 R.D.O. Ponente Prosecco Superiore Extra Dry, Masottina

Conegliano Valdobbiadene, Veneto, Italy

Effortlessly elegant and quietly complex, the 2023 R.D.O. Ponente Extra Dry captures the very soul of Ogliano’s famed hillsides. Pale gold in colour with an endlessly fine bead, it opens with bright notes of lime blossom, wisteria and acacia, layered with orchard fruits, pear, apple and bergamot and a touch of pink grapefruit zest. The palate is vibrant yet supple, a shimmering interplay of ripe citrus and cool minerality wrapped in a delicate mousse. A whisper of salinity lends tension and length, leading to a finish that lingers like sunlight on marble, poised, pure and effortlessly refined.

For when: the day deserves sparkle and the company’s too good to rush.
Pairs with: fresh oysters, sushi, or tempura vegetables.
If this wine were a mood, it’d be that golden hour in Venice, tranquil, glowing, and timelessly beautiful.

Masottina’s R.D.O. Ponente is drawn from the steep morainic slopes of Ogliano, a unique glacial terroir where the Dal Bianco family’s meticulous, sustainable viticulture meets the cool winds of the Veneto. Crafted with precision and patience, this Prosecco embodies the pinnacle of the region’s artistry, a wine of grace, purity, and quiet grandeur from one of the most distinguished crus in Conegliano Valdobbiadene.

The Dal Bianco family has passionately devoted its energy to producing wine since 1946. It all began when grandfather Epifanio acquired the Ai Palazzi estate at Gorgo al Monticano, comprising five hectares of vineyard. When the manor house overlooking the vineyard was restored, an ancient inscription came to light: ‘Casa Masottina’, lending its name to this historic brand which has been owned by the Dal Bianco family for three generations. Today, Masottina wines are the product of almost 300 hectares which extend across the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Hills and the Veneto region. The vines are carefully cultivated by the family in keeping with the sustainable rules of SQNPI. It is however, through the Cru wines from R.D.O. Ponente and R.D.O. Levante in the hills of Ogliano, that the finest expression of Masottina’s quality truly shines. These stunning wines have gained deserved recognition and for the first time, Wine Spectator recently placed the Rive di Ogliano in the magazine’s Top 100 most important wines in the world.

The selected hand picked grapes are fermented off the skins at a controlled temperature of 15 - 18°C. The prise de mousse and lees maturation normally take place for approximately 60 days in pressure tanks, on selected yeasts, at a temperature of 13 - 14°C. The wine is aged for at least one month before distribution.
