2023 Numina Malbec, Bodegas Salentein
Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
This is Uco Valley Malbec with depth, polish and a cool Andean edge. Blackcurrant, blueberry and ripe plum lead the nose, layered with violet, sweet spice, cedar, tobacco leaf and a touch of dark chocolate. It has the plush dark-fruited character Malbec drinkers love, but the altitude brings lift, freshness and a more refined sense of shape.
On the palate, it is juicy, broad and beautifully balanced, with ripe black fruit, smooth tannins and a long, elegant finish. The oak adds warmth and spice without taking over, while the natural freshness keeps the wine lively rather than heavy. A brilliant step-up Malbec for anyone who wants richness, structure and Mendoza polish in the same glass.
For when
A steak night needs proper Argentine polish.
Pairs with
Chargrilled ribeye, beef empanadas, lamb cutlets, slow-braised short rib, smoky aubergine, mushroom and lentil ragù, black bean stew or aged hard cheeses.
Numina is one of Salentein’s premium ranges, created to show the spirit of its high-altitude Uco Valley estates. This Malbec is rooted in selected parcels from Finca El Oasis, the winery’s oldest estate vineyard, sitting around 1,200m above sea level. The combination of Andean sunlight, cool nights and careful cellar work gives a wine that feels generous, polished and unmistakably Mendoza, but with freshness and elegance at its core.
