2023 Nero D'Avola, Il Folle
Sicily, Italy
The Sicilian Bloom
This is Nero d’Avola with warmth, colour and a bright Sicilian heartbeat. It opens with black cherry, ripe plum and wild berries, before Mediterranean herbs, soft spice, vanilla and a gentle earthy note begin to rise. There is plenty of dark-fruited charm here, but it stays smooth, juicy and easy to love, with the fruit doing the talking rather than heavy oak.
The palate is medium-bodied, supple and generous, with juicy dark fruit, soft integrated tannins and enough freshness to keep the finish clean and moreish. Think black cherry, plum skin, herbs and a little warm spice, all wrapped in that relaxed southern Italian glow.
For when you want a red that is warm, generous and completely unpretentious.
Pairs with tomato pasta, grilled sausages, pizza, roasted vegetables, lamb, polpette, mild cheeses, or a proper bowl of beef ragù.
If this wine were… a character, it would be the charming Sicilian wildcard at the table, all dark fruit, easy laughter and stories that get better with every glass.
Il Folle means “the mad one” in Italian, and the range is built around expressive, accessible Sicilian wines with plenty of warmth and personality. The Nero d’Avola is made from Sicily’s flagship red grape and, in the 2023 Organic bottling, focuses on vibrant fruit, smooth texture and an approachable style that reflects the sunny character of the island.
