2023 Brut Reserva, Llopart

, Spain

Or as we call it, Citrus Lift

Fresh, fine-bubbled and quietly elegant, this Brut Reserva captures Llopart’s mountain-grown Corpinnat style with real charm. White peach, crisp apple, citrus and pear come through first, followed by delicate biscuit, almond and a clean mineral note. It feels bright and poised rather than showy, with the organic Penedès vineyards giving the wine freshness, purity and a clear Mediterranean lift.

On the palate, it is smooth, vibrant and beautifully balanced, with fine bubbles, long acidity and just enough dosage to round the finish without making it feel sweet. The traditional-method ageing brings a gentle creamy texture and subtle leesy depth, while the fruit stays clean and refreshing. This is a brilliant sparkling wine to buy for aperitifs, seafood, celebrations and any moment that needs quality fizz with more personality than the usual bottle.

For when
A celebration needs something crisp, polished and quietly special.

Pairs with
Jamón ibérico, oysters, prawns, smoked salmon, manchego, fried seafood, roast chicken, tortilla, olives or salted almonds.

Llopart’s Brut Reserva matters because it sits at the heart of the family’s Corpinnat identity: organic estate fruit, traditional-method sparkle and long lees ageing from the high Penedès hills. It offers the freshness and ease customers want from a Brut sparkling wine, but with more pedigree, texture and regional character than a simple party bottle.

Llopart is one of Spain’s historic sparkling wine families, with roots at Can Llopart de Subirats dating back to 1385 and sparkling wine production beginning in 1887. Based in the high Penedès, close to Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the estate has become closely associated with long-aged, traditional-method sparkling wines that show both freshness and a clear sense of place.

The property covers around 500 hectares of Mediterranean mountain land, including 102 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards sit around 360 metres above sea level, surrounded by forest, aromatic plants and biodiversity, with shallow calcareous clay soils that naturally limit vigour and encourage concentration.

Llopart is also a founding member of Corpinnat, the collective created to raise the standard and reputation of serious Penedès sparkling wine. Customers should trust this bottle because it combines history, organic estate farming, hand harvesting and proper bottle ageing in a style that is crisp, versatile and genuinely drinkable.

The 2023 Brut Reserva is made from Xarel·lo 40%, Macabeo 30% and Parellada 30%, the classic local white varieties of the Penedès. The fruit comes from organically farmed vineyards on the Can Llopart estate, where the mountain setting, calcareous clay soils and Mediterranean climate help preserve freshness and aromatic clarity.

The grapes are harvested by hand and whole-cluster pressed. Base wines are fermented at low temperature to retain fresh fruit character, then secondary fermentation takes place in bottle using the traditional method. The 2023 wine spends at least 20 months on lees in bottle, building fine bubbles, creaminess and gentle biscuit complexity. Alcohol is 11.5%, with dosage listed at 8 g/L.

The result is a sparkling wine that tastes fresh, smooth and lively now, with white fruit, citrus, fine mousse and a clean, persistent finish. The lees ageing matters because it adds texture and polish, while the Brut dosage keeps the wine rounded and easy to enjoy. It is ready to drink now as an aperitif, with seafood, or as a more characterful alternative to standard sparkling wine.
