2023 Beaujolais Villages, Maison Piron
Beaujolais, France
Fresh raspberry, strawberry and blackcurrant leap from the glass, joined by violet, gentle spice and a subtle suggestion of warm berry tart. Bright, fragrant and wonderfully inviting, this is Gamay built around pure fruit and uncomplicated pleasure.
Light to medium-bodied, with juicy red berries, lively acidity and soft, finely textured tannins. There is enough concentration to give the wine substance, but no heaviness or intrusive oak. Fresh, supple and gently spicy through the finish, it is delicious served lightly chilled and offers impressive everyday value.
For when: The first glass is poured before you have decided what to cook.
Pairs with: Charcuterie, roast chicken, pâté, grilled sausages, pork tenderloin, salmon or mushroom tart.
Maison Piron blends this wine from selected villages across the northern Beaujolais hills. It offers more depth and structure than basic Beaujolais while retaining Gamay’s irresistible fragrance and freshness. Versatile, accessible, and ready to drink, this is an excellent introduction to both the producer and the region.
