2023 Roussette de Savoie 'Altesse', Madame de M...', Domaine Vendange
Roussette de Savoie, Savoie, France
Pale gold with a silvery shimmer, this Roussette de Savoie is both graceful and quietly seductive. The nose opens with white peach, pear, and acacia blossom, layered with hints of honey, almond, and mountain herbs. On the palate, it’s textured yet taut with ripe orchard fruit gliding over a backbone of cool minerality and zesty acidity. There’s a whisper of spice and beeswax on the long, elegant finish, leaving a sense of freshness and alpine purity that lingers long after each sip.
For when: the fire’s glowing, the night’s calm, and the conversation’s deep.
Pairs with: raclette, roasted poultry with morel sauce, or a simple cheese board.
If this wine were a feeling, it’d be a quiet moment in the mountains, serene, luminous, and full of promise.
Domaine Vendange, a family-run estate in the Combe de Savoie, has become one of the rising stars of this Alpine region. Run by Benjamin and Diane Vendange, the domaine farms its steep limestone and marl slopes sustainably, crafting wines that reflect the clarity and freshness of their mountain terroir.
The ‘Madame de M…’ cuvée is made entirely from Altesse, Savoie’s noble white grape, known for its natural poise and ageing potential. Grown on limestone-rich soils that imbue minerality and precision, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented at cool temperatures to retain purity and finesse. The 2023 vintage shows the grape at its best, bright, aromatic, and elegantly structured, a wine that captures both the serenity and sophistication of its alpine origins.

Owners Diane and Benjamin began bottling their own wines in 2015, from vineyards that have been in the family for generations. Their 10-hectares of vines flourish on south facing slopes in Combe de Savoie, on the foothills of the Massif des Bauges. The estate is located on glacial moraines dating back 15,000 years, originating from the time when the valley was one large glacier. The vineyard is managed with great respect for tradition and terroir, using sustainable practices in order to gain the best and most authentic expression of the Savoie. The combination of rich soils and favourable climate, provide Domaine de Vendange with excellent conditions for their vine nursery. The production process has been mastered throughout the generations, and they sell a vast range of scions and rootstocks throughout France.
The grapes were gently pressed at a low pressure to retain the quality and the must was cold settled overnight. The juice was fed by gravity and fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks to retain the varietal characteristics and the nuances of the Savoie terroir. Temperatures were carefully maintained at 18°C and the vinification lasted for a month. Malolactic conversion naturally took place during the winter. Vinified with a minimal intervention approach, the use of sulphites was judicious. 95% of the wine was aged in stainless steel tanks on its fine lees for over 12 months and 5% was matured in three-year-old Burgundy barrels.
