2023 Albarino 'Ruta 49', Bodegas Viña Cartin
Galicia, Spain
A fresh and zesty Albariño, showing bright citrus fruit aromas, layered with herbaceous notes and a touch of spice. Lightly textured and beautifully balanced with a lively, moreish finish.
The grapes come from the estate vineyards in Rías Baixas, predominantly from the Santa Mariña vineyard, where the vines are traditionally farmed. The vines are influenced by the strong cooling sea-breezes from the Atlantic, which enables the vines to have a long, slow and gradual maturation, helping to build aromatic complexity in the grapes and retain the bright, natural acidity that Albariño is famed for.

Bodegas Viña Cartín was founded in 1977 and is located in the Val do Salnes, one of the oldest subregions in Rías Baixas. Since their inception, they have been dedicated to 100% Albariño production, and have superbly honed their craft to produce characterful, fresh wines from this native variety. The vineyard area has subsequently expanded to cover sub regions such as Vilanova of Arousa, Meis and Portas. Today, Bodegas Viña Cartín owns 20 hectares of coastal estate vineyard, with vines averaging over 30 years of age. They are committed to natural farming methods and use modern, sophisticated vinification techniques to produce fresh, refined and fun wines that beautifully showcase the Albariño variety.
The grapes were vinifed at cool temperatures in stainless steel vats with selected yeasts to retain the crisp style and varietal character.
