2022 Ried Loiserberg 1ÖTW Erste Lage Gruner Veltliner, Weingut Bründlmayer
Langenlois, Kamptal, Austria
Mountain Cut
This is serious Grüner Veltliner from one of Austria’s great estates: bright, textured and full of Kamptal precision. From the south to south-east-facing Loiserberg vineyard above Langenlois, it opens with green apple, fresh pear, lemon peel and hay flowers, followed by white pepper, herbs, pithy citrus and a fine mineral edge.
The palate is dry, focused and quietly powerful, with orchard fruit, grapefruit, savoury spice and a little umami depth through the middle. Vibrant acidity keeps everything lifted, while ageing in large wooden casks gives the wine structure and a subtle, rounded texture. It is elegant now, but there is enough grip, extract and freshness here to develop beautifully.
For when you want Grüner Veltliner with pedigree, tension and proper vineyard character.
Pairs with schnitzel, roast pork, smoked trout, asparagus, seafood, chicken with herbs, mushroom dishes, Austrian dumplings, or hard alpine cheeses.
Weingut Bründlmayer is one of the benchmark names of Kamptal, based in Langenlois and widely recognised for Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and sparkling wines of exceptional precision. The Loiserberg vineyard rises to around 380 metres and is shaped by windy conditions, temperature extremes and complex primary rock soils with gneiss, mica-schist, clay and loess. This 2022 is 100% Grüner Veltliner, harvested on 21 October, fermented at moderate temperatures and matured in large wooden casks, giving a wine that combines freshness, texture and Erste Lage seriousness.
