2022 Red Goumenissa, Mikro Ktima Titos
Macedonia, Greece
A wonderfully fragrant northern Greek red, alive with wild strawberry, raspberry and morello cherry. Rosemary, jasmine and allspice bring an aromatic, almost woodland quality, while a subtle savoury undertone gives the fruit extra depth and personality.
Medium-bodied and beautifully composed, the palate combines lively acidity with silky tannins and juicy red fruit. Xinomavro provides freshness and structure, while Negoska softens the edges and adds generosity. The finish is long, herbal and gently spicy. This is a compelling buy for anyone who values perfume, freshness and regional character over sheer weight.
For when the table is full, the food is generous, and something less ordinary is called for.
Pairs with Slow-roasted lamb, beef stifado, pork souvlaki, mushroom ragù, tomato-braised vegetables or mature hard cheeses.
Mikro Ktima Titos sits among old oak trees beside the River Sirios, at the foot of Mount Paiko in Central Macedonia. First planted by Titos Eftychidis in 1972, the estate is now guided by acclaimed Greek winemakers Vangelis Gerovassiliou and Vassilis Tsaktsarlis. Their focus is firmly on Goumenissa’s indigenous grapes and the graceful, savoury reds they produce.
