2022 'Origin' Pinot Noir, Saint Clair

Marlborough, New Zealand

This is Marlborough Pinot Noir with ripe fruit, gentle spice and a lovely savoury thread. Black cherry, cranberry and red plum lead the nose, followed by dried thyme, soft vanilla, red apple skin, warm spice and a touch of earthy complexity. It has the easy charm of New Zealand Pinot, but with enough depth and polish to feel like a proper dinner-table red.

On the palate, it is smooth, juicy and medium-bodied, with ripe berry fruit, fine tannins and a long, lightly toasty finish. The fruit feels generous without becoming heavy, while the savoury herb note keeps everything fresh and food-friendly. A brilliant Pinot for anyone who wants silky texture, bright fruit and a little Marlborough elegance in the glass.

For when
A relaxed dinner needs something silky and smart.

Pairs with
Roast chicken, duck breast with cherry sauce, rosemary lamb, mushroom risotto, pork tenderloin, beetroot and goat’s cheese salad, grilled salmon or soft washed-rind cheeses.

Saint Clair’s Origin range is all about expressive Marlborough character in a polished, approachable style. This Pinot Noir comes from carefully selected Southern Valleys vineyards, an area prized for richer, more structured Pinot fruit. It shows exactly why Saint Clair is such a dependable name: bright fruit, savoury detail, careful winemaking and a bottle that delivers far more pleasure than effort.

Saint Clair Family Estate is one of Marlborough’s most trusted and recognised producers, founded by Neal and Judy Ibbotson in 1994. The family’s roots in the region go back further, with Judy planting one of Marlborough’s early vineyards in 1978 and Neal bringing decades of viticultural experience to the project.

The estate has built its reputation on detailed vineyard work, strong fruit selection and a clear understanding of Marlborough’s varied sub-regions. While Saint Clair is especially famous for Sauvignon Blanc, its Pinot Noir shows the same strengths: purity, freshness, consistency and a polished, fruit-led style that remains true to place.

The winery combines estate-grown fruit with long-standing grower relationships, selecting parcels carefully and rewarding quality in the vineyard. That focus has helped Saint Clair earn major international recognition over many years.

The 2022 'Origin' Pinot Noir is 100% Pinot Noir from Marlborough. The fruit was sourced from selected low-cropping vineyards in the Southern Valleys region of the Wairau Plain, where clay-rich, vigour-moderating soils help build flavour, colour and structure.

Each vineyard batch was held cold for five days before fermentation to help draw out colour and flavour. Fermentation was carried out with selected yeast, with hand plunging up to eight times daily at the height of fermentation. Once dry, each batch was pressed, settled and racked to stainless steel tanks or a mix of new and older seasoned French oak. The wine underwent full malolactic fermentation before blending, fining, light filtration and bottling.
