2022 Hoof & Lur Moschofilero, Troupis Winery
Mantineia, Peloponnese, Greece
A wine that dances between precision and play, Hoof & Lur 2022 Orange wine captures the untamed beauty of high-altitude Mantinia. Pale copper with rose-gold glints, it opens with lifted aromas of wild rose, bergamot, pink grapefruit, and crushed herbs. On the palate, it’s textured yet electric with notes of citrus peel, quince, and spice that weave through a fine, saline backbone. Extended ageing on the lees has lent a soft, savoury depth and a gentle grip, anchoring its fragrant energy. The finish is long, pure, and quietly thrilling, an expression of Moschofilero at its most soulful.
For when: You want something aromatic, edgy, and beautifully offbeat.
Pairs with: Spiced mezze, grilled octopus, or anything kissed by lemon and herbs.
In the cool, mountain-ringed plateau of Mantinia, at 660–800 metres above sea level, the Troupis family has become the voice of contemporary Moschofilero. Though the winery was founded in 2010, the family’s vineyards date back to the 1970s, rooted in the high-altitude soils that define this unique PDO. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and given extended ageing on lees, Hoof & Lur is Moschofilero reimagined, crafted with minimal intervention but maximum character.
The 2022 vintage benefited from the region’s slow, cool ripening, yielding grapes of intense perfume and natural freshness. Aged longer than most white wines, it shows both aromatic lift and textural complexity, a wild yet elegant take on Greece’s most charismatic grape, bottled with all the vitality of the mountains that shaped it.

High in the central Peloponnese, surrounded by mountains and cool breezes, Troupis Winery is redefining what Moschofilero can be. Though officially founded in 2010, the Troupis family had been cultivating their own vineyards in Mantinia since the 1970s, long before the grape became a symbol of Greek elegance. Today, the estate remains proudly family-run, a small, dynamic winery dedicated to crafting authentic, expressive wines that honour both land and tradition.
The vineyards lie on the Mantinia plateau, one of Greece’s highest and coldest PDO zones, sitting between 660 and 800 metres above sea level. The combination of altitude, poor soils, and a Mediterranean climate with continental influences allows for slow, even ripening, giving the wines striking freshness and aromatic clarity. Here, the pink-skinned Moschofilero grape thrives, producing wines that range from delicately floral whites to textured, skin-contact expressions and sparkling bottlings.
Guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and curiosity, the Troupis family works with indigenous yeasts, extended skin contact, and a range of vessels from stainless steel and concrete to acacia and ceramic amphorae. The result is a portfolio of wines that are vibrant, individual, and deeply tied to their mountainous terroir. Troupis has quickly become one of Greece’s most exciting boutique producers, both a guardian of tradition and a bold innovator shaping the next chapter of Mantinia’s winemaking story.
