2022 Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard El Cepillo, El Enemigo

El Cepillo, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

En-Primeur offer: wines arrive in November 2026

Chalk Current

This is the most electric and finely chiselled side of Gran Enemigo, shaped by the cool tension of El Cepillo at around 1,300m altitude. Black cherry, blackberry and damson sit alongside violet, graphite, cracked pepper, ash, wild herbs and a bright twist of citrus peel. It has depth and darkness, but the character is all about precision, with a cool, mineral edge running through the fruit.

On the palate, it is juicy, chalky and firmly structured, with fine-grained tannins, vivid acidity and a long, focused finish. The Cabernet Franc brings lift, grip and savoury detail, while the Malbec adds colour and dark-fruited flesh. Powerful but never heavy, this is a serious high-altitude Mendoza red for drinkers who love structure, freshness and cellar-worthy tension.

For when
A special bottle needs real energy and edge.

Pairs with
Chargrilled ribeye, lamb shoulder with rosemary, venison, beef empanadas, black garlic mushrooms, smoky aubergine, lentil stew or aged hard cheeses.

Gran Enemigo El Cepillo sits within El Enemigo’s celebrated single-vineyard Cabernet Franc collection, created to show how Mendoza’s great sites shape the same variety in different ways. El Cepillo, in the southern Uco Valley, sits at around 1,300m altitude, where cooler conditions help preserve acidity, sharpen the tannins and give the wine its limestone-like definition. Compared with the richer Agrelo and wilder Chacayes bottlings, El Cepillo feels tauter, chalkier and more precise, with a thrilling sense of altitude.

El Enemigo is one of Argentina’s most admired modern wine projects, founded by Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil. Adrianna brings a historian’s eye and deep connection to Mendoza’s wine culture, while Alejandro Vigil is one of the country’s most influential winemakers, known for his work with high-altitude vineyards, precision farming and the rise of Cabernet Franc as a serious Argentine fine-wine variety.

The name El Enemigo is about the inner battle: the pursuit of something more meaningful, more expressive and more difficult. That idea runs through the wines. Rather than relying only on Mendoza’s natural ripeness, El Enemigo seeks tension, freshness, structure and vineyard character.

Gran Enemigo is the estate’s most ambitious red-wine tier, focused on Cabernet Franc-led wines from distinct Mendoza sites including Gualtallary, Chacayes, El Cepillo and Agrelo. These are polished, age-worthy wines with international stature, but they remain unmistakably Argentine: vibrant, savoury, mountain-shaped and full of personality.

The 2022 Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard El Cepillo is a blend of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Malbec from Pampa El Cepillo in the southern Uco Valley, Mendoza. The vineyard area sits at around 1,300m above sea level, bringing cool-climate freshness, firm structure and a marked mineral edge to the wine.

The fruit was harvested in stages, allowing the different components to build layers of flavour, ripeness and tension. Fermentation included 30% whole bunches, helping to lift the aromatics and add savoury grip. The wine was then aged for 15 months in concrete, preserving purity, texture and vineyard definition rather than pushing oak sweetness to the front.

The 2022 Mendoza vintage was exceptional, with strong natural acidity, excellent concentration, ripe tannins and balanced alcohol levels. That vintage character suits El Cepillo particularly well, giving a wine that is intense and structured, but also fresh, chalky and beautifully precise. Alcohol is 13.5%.
