2022 Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Chacayes Magnum, El Enemigo

Los Chacayes, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

En-Primeur offer: wines arrive in November 2026

A rare Magnum of 2022 Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Chacayes

Wild Current

This is the wilder, more aromatic side of Gran Enemigo, made even more compelling in magnum. Blackberry, red cherry and elderberry sit beneath violet, cracked pepper, mountain herbs, paprika, graphite and a subtle earthy spice. It has real depth, but the character is not simply about weight; Chacayes brings a lifted, savoury, high-altitude edge that makes the wine feel charged and alive.

On the palate, it is generous, energetic and beautifully defined, with black fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, precise finish. The Cabernet Franc gives perfume, grip and herbal complexity, while the Malbec adds flesh and darker fruit. In magnum, this becomes a brilliant centrepiece bottle: serious, structured and highly cellar-worthy, with the freshness and detail to evolve beautifully.

For when
A bold dinner needs the magnum treatment.

Pairs with
Chargrilled lamb, ribeye with chimichurri, slow-braised beef, venison, black bean stew, roast aubergine, mushroom empanadas or hard aged cheeses.

Gran Enemigo Chacayes is part of El Enemigo’s celebrated single-vineyard Cabernet Franc collection, created to show how Mendoza’s great sites shape the same variety in different ways. Los Chacayes, in the Uco Valley, brings stony intensity, wild herbal lift and firm, focused tannins. In magnum, that structure, freshness and savoury drive make this especially appealing for collectors, celebrations and generous food-led drinking.

El Enemigo is one of Argentina’s most admired modern wine projects, founded by Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil. Adrianna brings a historian’s eye and deep connection to Mendoza’s wine culture, while Alejandro Vigil is one of the country’s most influential winemakers, known for his work with high-altitude vineyards, precision farming and the rise of Cabernet Franc as a serious Argentine fine-wine variety.

The name El Enemigo is about the inner battle: the pursuit of something more meaningful, more expressive and more difficult. That idea runs through the wines. Rather than relying only on Mendoza’s natural ripeness, El Enemigo seeks tension, freshness, structure and vineyard character.

Gran Enemigo is the estate’s most ambitious red-wine tier, focused on Cabernet Franc-led wines from distinct Mendoza sites including Gualtallary, Chacayes, El Cepillo and Agrelo. These are polished, age-worthy wines with international stature, but they remain unmistakably Argentine: vibrant, savoury, mountain-shaped and full of personality.

The 2022 Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Chacayes is Cabernet Franc with 15% Malbec from Los Chacayes in Tunuyán, Uco Valley, Mendoza. The vineyard sits at around 1,100m above sea level, where altitude, sunlight and cool nights help build ripe fruit while preserving freshness and structure.

The Chacayes site is associated with alluvial soils with limestone influence, giving the wine its firm tannic frame, savoury detail and mineral edge. The 2022 vintage in Mendoza was excellent, producing wines with strong natural acidity, good concentration, ripe tannins and balanced alcohol levels.
