2022 Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Chacayes, El Enemigo
Los Chacayes, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
En-Primeur offer: wines arrive in November 2026
Wild Current
This is the wilder, more aromatic side of Gran Enemigo. Blackberry, red cherry and elderberry sit beneath violet, cracked pepper, mountain herbs, paprika, graphite and a subtle earthy spice. It has real depth, but the character is not simply about weight; Chacayes brings a lifted, savoury, high-altitude edge that makes the wine feel charged and alive.
On the palate, it is generous, energetic and beautifully defined, with black fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, precise finish. The Cabernet Franc gives perfume, grip and herbal complexity, while the Malbec adds flesh and darker fruit. Serious, structured and highly cellar-worthy, this is Mendoza Cabernet Franc for drinkers who want power with freshness, detail and a strong sense of place.
For when
A bold dinner needs something with altitude and intrigue.
Pairs with
Chargrilled lamb, ribeye with chimichurri, slow-braised beef, venison, black bean stew, roast aubergine, mushroom empanadas or hard aged cheeses.
Gran Enemigo Chacayes is part of El Enemigo’s celebrated single-vineyard Cabernet Franc collection, created to show how Mendoza’s great sites shape the same variety in different ways. Los Chacayes, in the Uco Valley, brings stony intensity, wild herbal lift and firm, focused tannins. Compared with the plusher Agrelo bottling, Chacayes feels more untamed and savoury, with a beautiful push of freshness beneath the dark fruit.
