Perched high in the hills of Radda in Chianti, Castello di Volpaia is a beautifully preserved medieval village that doubles as one of Tuscany’s most admired wine estates. Owned and operated by the Mascheroni Stianti family since the 1970s, Volpaia has become synonymous with refined, terroir-driven Sangiovese. The estate sits at over 500 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest in the Chianti Classico region, an advantage that lends Volpaia’s wines their signature elegance, vibrant acidity, and age-worthy structure.
The 2022 Chianti Classico is a quintessential expression of Volpaia’s high-altitude vineyards and organic farming philosophy. Crafted primarily from Sangiovese, with a touch of native varieties, it combines tradition with freshness and finesse.
In the glass, the wine offers a fragrant bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, and violet, interwoven with hints of spice, crushed herbs, and Tuscan earth. On the palate, it is lively and harmonious, with crisp acidity, silky tannins, and layers of fresh red fruit, dried flowers, and subtle minerality. The finish is long and refined, echoing with notes of sour cherry and a touch of cedar.
