2021 Up the Hill Pinot Noir, Ten Minutes By Tractor
Mornington Peninsula, Australia
Pale ruby with a luminous edge, this Pinot Noir is all finesse and focus. Aromas of wild strawberry, cherry and rose petal unfold with hints of forest floor, spice and fine French oak. The palate is silky and detailed with pure red fruit gliding over supple tannins, framed by bright acidity and a whisper of savoury earth. Elegant, layered and incredibly poised, it lingers with the sort of quiet persistence that makes you take another sip.
For when: the conversation’s unhurried and the food’s been cooked with care.
Pairs with: duck breast, mushroom risotto, or roast beetroot with thyme and olive oil.
If this wine were a person, it’d listen more than it speaks and always leaves an impression.
Ten Minutes by Tractor has become one of Mornington Peninsula’s modern benchmarks for Pinot Noir. Up the Hill is sourced from higher-altitude vineyards where cool breezes and clay-rich soils deliver fruit of precision and perfume. Fermented in small open vats and matured in fine-grained French oak, the 2021 captures the estate’s hallmark balance between texture and purity.

Notable Awards
93pts "A lovely composed wine that flaunts a coolness and evenness. A balance of flavours, all cherries, pips and blood orange then lightly spiced. The tannins are silky across the more medium-bodied palate. It's a pleasure to taste this." Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

Ten Minutes by Tractor started in 1997 with three vineyards in Main Ridge, all ten minutes by tractor apart. Over the past 18 years, Martin and Karen Spedding have added four more vineyards that have a diverse range of microclimates from across the Mornington Peninsula. Each of these vineyard sites features different aspects, slopes, soils, altitude and influence of the cool maritime breezes that wind their way through the valleys.
This terroir and sense of place explain everything about their wines. Cool places. Beautiful places. Places that are defined by the wines they make and which can seem worlds apart. The refinement and vibrant acidity of Wallis; the elegance and poise of McCutcheon; the alluring aromatics and fine structure of Judd; the power and fruit purity of Coolart Road.
Each vineyard is intimately linked to its place. These little differences; in soil, slope, aspects and all the other things that make their vineyards distinct mean that while they may be ten minutes by tractor from each other, they are a world apart.
Fruit was handpicked, fermented on skins in a combination of concrete tanks and stainless steel for 14-21 days. 10% whole bunch fermented ,then 10 months in a combination of new (18%) and old oak.
