Mount Langi Ghiran is continually listed as one of the most beautiful vineyard sites in Australia. The vineyard’s towering granite cliffs and loamy red soils contribute to its extraordinary sense of place. These geological features play a crucial role in shaping the character of the wines produced here.

Billi Billi Shiraz has long been known as an exceptional value cool climate Shiraz and this 2021 vintage shows the wine at its peak.  Finely structured tannins frame this medium-bodied, generous wine, with loads of spice and a full basket of fruit flavours. Billi Billi Shiraz is sourced from a selection of premium cool climate vineyards throughout Victoria; including a portion from the Mount Langi Ghiran vineyards, home of the iconic Langi Shiraz.

100 Best Australian Wines, Matthew Jukes, 2024. ‘An incredible wine. I know it is the cheapie in the range, but suspend disbelief until you have tasted it. This is a sour, peppery and amazingly aromatic Shiraz with a green theme (green peppercorn) atop ridiculously ripe fruit. With no 2020 made, this vintage follows on from the superb 2019, and it means that Billi Billi, for the first time in my memory, has played a blinder in back-to-back releases. Crunchy tannins form the perfect platform on which the glorious blackberry, liquorice, rhubarb, and cherry notes cavort. 70% of this wine is estate fruit, so that goes some way to answering why this wine has such an elite flavour.’

Established in 1969, now home to one of Australia’s most iconic cool climate wines, Langi Shiraz. Mount Langi Ghiran – Aboriginal for home of the yellow tailed black cockatoo – is set amongst the dramatic backdrop of the Great Dividing Range in the Grampians region of Victoria, producing iconic cool climate wines. The first vines were planted on the property in the late 1800s at the site which is now the ‘Contour Block’, but it’s when the Fratin family replanted in 1969 that Mount Langi Ghiran really came to be.
After some early winemaking success, the Fratins had a misfire with their 1980 vintage and decided they needed the services of a consultant. They were fortunate to have at their doorstep one of the best available at the time, Trevor Mast. Talented and charismatic; he was the right man in the right place.
6 years later, Trevor and his wife Sandra purchased Mount Langi Ghiran with Ian Menzies. A turning point for Mount Langi Ghiran, Trevor had a vision for a cool climate Shiraz before cool climate was in vogue and so the iconic Langi Shiraz was just around the corner and the legend of Langi truly began.

The Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard spans 70 hectares and is truly unique. Its most distinguished wine, the Langi Shiraz, hails from the ‘Old Block’—a site that produces one of Australia’s most distinctive and celebrated wines. The Langi Shiraz block is planted with Swiss clonal material, originally sourced from nearby Best’s Concongella Vineyard.

The winemaking process involves:

Open fermentation with some whole bunch inclusion.
Regular hand plunging during fermentation.
Partial barrel fermentation.
