2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Renacido Vineyard, Garage Wine Company
Cauquenes, Maule Valley, Chile
The Granite Prophet
This is Chilean Cabernet with old-vine depth, wild perfume and a beautifully stony pulse. From Renacido Vineyard in Cauquenes, it opens with cassis, blueberry, redcurrant and black cherry, before notes of wild herbs, graphite, garrigue, sweetbrier, tobacco and spice begin to gather. The Cabernet is grafted onto ancient País roots, with a little old Malbec left in the field blend, giving the wine a rare sense of texture and lift.
The palate is full, tense and finely carved, with dark fruit, red berry brightness, firm tannins and that unmistakable granite edge running through the finish. It has the structure of serious Cabernet, but not the heaviness. Instead, it feels vivid, herbal, mineral and quietly electric.
For when you want Cabernet with Chilean soul, old-vine character and proper table presence.
Pairs with grilled steak, lamb shoulder, beef short rib, mushroom stew, smoky aubergine, venison, hard cheeses, or anything cooked slowly over fire.
Garage Wine Company began in Pilar Miranda and Derek Mossman Knapp’s garage, alongside oenologist Dr Alvaro Peña, before becoming one of Chile’s most respected small-batch producers. Their work focuses on reviving old, dry-farmed vineyards across Maule and Itata, using native yeasts, hand work, manual punch downs and basket pressing to make wines with real human touch and a strong sense of place.
