2019 Reserve Shiraz Viognier, Yering Station
Yarra Valley, Australia
Blackberry, black plum and quince rise from the glass, surrounded by violet, white pepper, anise, clove and nutmeg. Toasted French oak adds depth and warmth, but the wine retains the lifted perfume and savoury definition that distinguish Yarra Valley Shiraz.
Full-bodied and densely structured, with concentrated dark fruit carried by fine, gravelly tannins and bright mineral acidity. A small addition of Viognier brings fragrance and lift, tempering the natural power of the warmer 2019 vintage. Long, velvety and impressively composed, this is a serious Australian Shiraz with the balance to develop through 2035.
For when: A special dinner needs a red with both power and polish.
Pairs with: Roast lamb, venison, beef short ribs, duck breast, mushroom Wellington or mature hard cheeses.
Yering Station reserves this flagship label for exceptional vintages and the finest blocks, rows and barrels from its Yarra Valley vineyards. The concentrated 2019 season produced a bold expression, with cooler sites carefully selected to bring freshness and finesse alongside the vintage’s natural depth.
