2019 Primitivo di Manduria, Brunilde di Menzione
Primitivo di Manduria, Puglia, Italy
Rich, dark and full of southern Italian warmth, this Primitivo di Manduria is all ripe fruit, spice and velvet texture. Black cherry, plum and blackberry fill the glass, joined by notes of vanilla, chocolate, soft oak and a little sweet Mediterranean spice. The palate is generous and smooth, with rounded tannins, polished fruit and a long, comforting finish.
There is plenty of Puglian sunshine here, but the wine keeps a pleasing sense of balance. Its barrique ageing brings softness and depth, while the natural richness of Primitivo gives that plush, easy charm that makes it so inviting at the table. It is full-bodied, mellow and made for hearty food.
For when: the evening needs a bold, smooth red with warmth, comfort and plenty of charm.
Pairs with: grilled meats, slow-cooked beef, lamb, rich pasta sauces, mushroom stew, aged cheeses or dark chocolate.
Brunilde di Menzione is part of the Schenk Italian Wineries family, created to express the deep colour, generous fruit and sun-warmed character of Puglia. The wines draw on the ancient appeal of southern Italy, where Primitivo thrives in the heat and produces reds with softness, spice and a naturally generous heart.
