2019 Late Bottled Vintage Port, Conceito
Duoro, Portugal
Conceito Vinhos is one of the most dynamic estates in the Douro Valley, based in the remote and high-altitude region of the Douro Superior. Founded by Carla Ferreira and now led by visionary winemaker Rita Marques, Conceito has earned a stellar reputation for producing terroir-driven wines and Ports that combine traditional techniques with a modern, minimalist approach. The estate’s organically farmed vineyards, some over 80 years old, are planted on granite and schist soils at elevations up to 600 metres, yielding wines of outstanding freshness, structure, and precision.
The 2019 Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port is a beautifully composed expression of the Douro’s native red varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Amarela, grown in old-vine field blends. Aged in large oak vats for four years before bottling, this unfiltered LBV is rich in detail, combining the intensity of a Vintage Port with the readiness of earlier drinking.
In the glass, the 2019 LBV reveals a deep ruby hue and an expressive nose of wild blackberry, dark cherry, and plum, layered with nuances of violet, cocoa, crushed herbs, and warm spice. The palate is lush and velvety, delivering a generous core of ripe dark fruit, supported by polished tannins and a vibrant undercurrent of mineral freshness. The finish is long and harmonious, offering a graceful balance between power and poise.

Conceito Vinhos is one of Portugal’s most innovative and terroir-driven wine projects, based in the rugged, high-altitude vineyards of the Douro Superior. Founded by Carla Ferreira and led by her daughter, the talented and internationally respected winemaker Rita Marques, Conceito brings a modern, independent spirit to a region deeply rooted in tradition. The name “Conceito” means “concept” in Portuguese—a reflection of the estate’s mission to create wines with identity, precision, and a true sense of place.
Farming organically across over 83 hectares of vineyards, Conceito focuses on indigenous Portuguese grape varieties, with a mix of very old vines and carefully selected new plantings. The vineyards, planted on a mix of granite and schist soils at elevations up to 600 meters, benefit from cooler temperatures and wide diurnal shifts, resulting in wines of freshness, elegance, and aromatic purity.
Rita Marques, a trained enologist with experience in Bordeaux, South Africa, and New Zealand, brings a global outlook and exacting standards to every bottle. Whether crafting Douro reds and whites, mineral-driven wines from the Vinho Verde region, or refined Ports, Conceito is known for its low-intervention approach, native yeast fermentations, and careful oak usage.
From flagship field blends and old-vine bottlings to vibrant white Port and modern sparkling wines, Conceito represents the new face of Portuguese wine, bold in vision, respectful of heritage, and uncompromising in quality.
