2019 Bandol Rouge, Domaine de Terrebrune
Bandol, Provence, France
The 2019 Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rouge is a distinguished expression of Provence’s Bandol appellation, crafted by the Delille family, who have been stewards of this estate since 1963. Situated in Ollioules, just east of Bandol, the estate benefits from a unique terroir overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, where the combination of sea breezes and Triassic era soils imparts a distinctive character to the wines. Under the guidance of Reynald Delille, the estate has embraced organic farming practices, emphasising a philosophy of “Philosophy, Rigour, and Respect” in their winemaking approach.
In its youth, the 2019 Bandol Rouge exhibits a deep, opulent bouquet dominated by black fruits and liquorice, complemented by notes of spices and garrigue. On the palate, it presents a powerful yet harmonious profile, with chewy tannins providing structure to the ripe fruit flavours. The wine’s complexity and balance suggest significant ageing potential, with a recommended drinking window extending through 2034.

Domaine de Terrebrune, established in 1963 by Georges Delille in Ollioules, Provence, stands as a paragon of Bandol winemaking. Over a decade, Delille meticulously restored the estate, terracing hillsides and replanting vineyards with guidance from Lucien Peyraud. His son, Reynald, joined in 1980, ushering in a commitment to organic viticulture and a philosophy centred on “Philosophy, Rigour, and Respect.”
The estate’s 30 hectares, perched on Triassic limestone and brown clay soils, benefit from Mediterranean breezes, fostering wines of notable freshness and minerality. Specialising in Mourvèdre-dominant reds, as well as refined rosés and whites, Terrebrune’s wines are celebrated for their elegance, complexity, and remarkable ageing potential, distinguishing them within the Bandol appellation.
The 2019 Bandol Rouge is a blend of 85% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache, and 5% Cinsault. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted in the vineyard to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled, gravity-fed underground cuves, followed by 18 months of ageing in large oak foudres. This extended maturation period aids in natural clarification and stabilisation, allowing the wine to develop its full aromatic and structural potential.
