2018 Saint-Véran Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Corsin
Saint-Veran, Burgundy, France
Golden Mâconnais
Rich, rounded and quietly elegant, this mature Saint-Véran shows the generous glow of the 2018 vintage. Yellow apple, ripe pear, citrus peel and white flowers rise from the glass, with a soft touch of hazelnut and fine wood bringing depth and warmth. The palate is full and harmonious, with ripe fruit, gentle creaminess and a mineral thread that keeps everything poised.
There is a lovely southern Burgundy charm here, polished but not showy, generous but still fresh. Its old-vine Chardonnay character gives weight and texture, while a clean citrus lift draws the finish out with grace. It feels like a white Burgundy made for the table, comforting, quietly detailed and very easy to return to.
For when: the evening wants white Burgundy with maturity, warmth and a little golden calm.
Pairs with: roast chicken, creamy risotto, grilled fish, scallops, crab, mushroom dishes or soft cheeses.
If this wine were...: a limestone courtyard in Davayé, glowing softly in the late afternoon sun.
Domaine Corsin is a long-standing family estate in Davayé, in the southern Mâconnais, with a history in Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé reaching back to the nineteenth century. The domaine works entirely with Chardonnay across its white Burgundy range, drawing character from clay-limestone soils, old vines and the bright, generous landscape around Solutré and Vergisson. Its Saint-Véran Vieilles Vignes captures that spirit beautifully, combining richness, freshness and a quiet sense of place.
