2018 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir, Domaine William Fèvre *MAGNUM*

Chablis, Burgundy, France

Mineral Arc

Mature, silky and beautifully expressive, this magnum of Vaudésir shows the graceful side of Grand Cru Chablis. Ripe pear, white peach and citrus blossom meet orange peel, chalk and wet stone, with a fine saline thread running through the wine. The warmth of 2018 gives generosity and breadth, but the vineyard’s mineral character keeps everything fresh and unmistakably Chablis.

On the palate, it is rounded and satiny, with ripe orchard fruit, bright citrus and a precise mineral finish. Bottle age has brought greater harmony and savoury complexity, while the magnum format adds both collector appeal and slower-maturing potential. This is a superb table centrepiece for customers who want mature Grand Cru Burgundy with pedigree, freshness and enough life to continue developing.

For when: A milestone dinner needs mature Grand Cru Chablis in a magnum built to command the table.

Pairs with: Lobster, turbot, scallops, roast sole, langoustines, roast poultry, veal in cream sauce, Comté or truffle dishes.

Vaudésir sits between Valmur and Les Preuses in the heart of the Chablis Grand Cru slope, with steep, sun-catching parcels capable of producing wines that combine richness with remarkable finesse. Domaine William Fèvre owns 1.20 hectares across three parcels, giving the estate an intimate understanding of the site. In magnum, the wine gains extra occasion value and cellar appeal, making this as compelling for collectors as it is for a memorable dinner.

Domaine William Fèvre is one of the benchmark estates of Chablis, with family winegrowing roots stretching back for generations. William Fèvre took control of the domaine in 1959 and steadily assembled an exceptional collection of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, helping establish the estate as one of the appellation’s great references.

The domaine became especially respected under Didier Séguier, whose approach emphasised hand harvesting, gravity handling, restrained use of seasoned oak and long élevage. The goal has always been clarity of site rather than obvious winemaking, allowing each Grand Cru to retain its individual shape and mineral character.

Environmental work has also been central to the estate’s development, with organic practices adopted progressively and biodynamic methods used in Grand Cru parcels. Since 2024, Domaine William Fèvre has been part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite.

For customers, this magnum brings together several compelling elements: Grand Cru terroir, a mature vintage, one of Chablis’s most trusted producers and a format ideally suited to long dinners, celebrations and further cellaring.

The 2018 Vaudésir is made from 100% Chardonnay. Domaine William Fèvre owns 1.20 hectares across three parcels on the steep Vaudésir slope. The site is warm and sun-catching, producing naturally generous wines, but its mineral structure becomes increasingly pronounced with bottle age.

The 2018 season followed a cold winter and wet spring with a notably hot, dry summer. Warm conditions encouraged full ripening and an early harvest, while cool nights helped preserve freshness. The healthy vintage produced ripe, concentrated Chardonnay with enough acidity to balance its natural richness.

The grapes were hand harvested and gently handled before pneumatic pressing. Fermentation and maturation took place between stainless steel and seasoned French oak rather than new barrels, preserving the wine’s fruit and mineral character. The wine spent around 14 months ageing before bottling. Alcohol is 13%, and this product is the 1.5L magnum format.

Now with beautiful maturity, the wine shows ripe pear, peach, citrus blossom and orange peel alongside softened mineral notes and an increasingly savoury, saline finish. It still has plenty of freshness, but bottle age has made the texture silkier and more harmonious. The magnum format makes it particularly attractive for further ageing, but it is also ready to enjoy now with a generous decant and a serious seafood or poultry dinner.
