2018 Blanc de Noirs Vintage, Wiston Estate

Sussex, England

This is English Blanc de Noirs with richness, poise and a beautifully savoury edge. Baked pear, greengage and red apple lead the nose, followed by wild strawberry, toasted almond, buttery croissant, vanilla bean and a gentle spice note. It has the ripeness and generosity of the excellent 2018 vintage, but still keeps the freshness and chalky lift that make Wiston so compelling.

On the palate, it is broad, creamy and finely structured, with ripe orchard fruit, subtle red-fruit depth and a long, mouth-watering finish. The mousse is elegant, the texture is generous, and the savoury mineral core keeps everything balanced. A serious English sparkling wine for anyone who wants Blanc de Noirs with flavour, finesse and real dinner-table presence.

For when
A celebration needs English sparkling with richness and style.

Pairs with
Dressed crab, smoked salmon, roast chicken, scallops, pork belly, mushroom tart, duck rillettes, truffle crisps, Comté or creamy vegetable dishes.

Wiston’s Blanc de Noirs is made only in strong vintages, and 2018 gave the estate the ripeness, depth and balance needed for a standout Pinot Noir sparkling wine. Drawn from a single-vineyard parcel and shaped by long lees ageing, it shows the richer side of English fizz without losing freshness. It is bold, polished and food-loving, with the kind of complexity that makes Wiston one of the country’s most respected sparkling producers.

Wiston Estate is one of the leading names in English sparkling wine, based on the chalky slopes of the South Downs in West Sussex. The Goring family has cared for the estate since 1743, but its modern wine story began with Pip Goring, who dreamed of planting vines after growing up in South Africa’s Western Cape.

That dream became reality in 2006, when the family planted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier on a south-facing site chosen for its chalk soils and cool-climate potential. Since then, Wiston has built a reputation for traditional-method sparkling wines with precision, texture and a clear sense of place.

The estate’s Coquard press, careful fruit selection and long lees ageing all play important roles, but the signature remains the vineyard: bright acidity, mineral freshness and graceful structure. For customers, Wiston offers English sparkling wine with genuine pedigree, family heritage and the confidence to stand beside far more established sparkling regions.

The 2018 Blanc de Noirs Vintage is 100% Pinot Noir from a single vineyard at Wiston Estate in West Sussex. The 2018 harvest was one of the great recent English vintages, with a strong flowering period and a long, settled growing season giving ripe, healthy fruit with excellent balance.

The grapes were hand-harvested in October and gently whole-bunch pressed in Wiston’s Coquard press to preserve delicacy and purity. The juice was fermented in old French barrels, then stored for nine months before bottling in 2019 for secondary fermentation. The wine then spent four to five years ageing on lees before further time on cork.

The result is rich, creamy and beautifully ready to drink, with baked pear, greengage, croissant, almond and savoury mineral depth. The long lees ageing gives texture and complexity, while the Pinot Noir brings body and a subtle red-fruited glow. Alcohol is 12%, dosage is 7g/l, and the wine can be enjoyed now or cellared further if stored carefully.
