2022 Sauternes Castelnau De Suduiraut, 375ml

Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

Radiant pale gold in the glass, this second wine from Château Suduiraut is all about freshness, finesse, and quiet indulgence. The nose offers an elegant blend of honeyed pear, apricot, and orange blossom, lifted by hints of vanilla, acacia, and candied citrus. On the palate, it’s lusciously smooth yet delicately poised, sweet but never heavy, with vibrant acidity giving lift to the rich layers of tropical fruit, lemon curd, and spice. The finish is long and graceful, shimmering with notes of honeycomb and caramelised fruit. A beautifully balanced Sauternes, indulgent, but with the lightest of touches.

For when: dessert’s on pause because you’re too busy admiring the glass.
Pairs with: blue cheese, lemon tart, or simply chilled and poured on its own.
If this wine were a mood, it’d be golden-hour calm, warm, radiant, and quietly luminous.

Castelnau de Suduiraut is the second wine of Château Suduiraut, the renowned Premier Cru Classé estate situated in the heart of Sauternes, next to the famed Château d’Yquem. Crafted predominantly from Sémillon, with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc, Castelnau showcases the estate’s commitment to precision and terroir while offering a more youthful, approachable expression of its noble vineyards.

The 2022 vintage was marked by warm days and cool nights, yielding perfectly botrytised grapes with concentrated flavours and excellent natural acidity. Aged partly in oak to add texture and complexity, this cuvée captures Suduiraut’s signature elegance in a fresher, more immediate form - a golden expression of purity, pleasure, and poise.

The history of Château Suduiraut, in Sauternes, dates back centuries. Following the total destruction of the property by the Duke d'Epernon in the 1600s, Count Blaise de Suduiraut replanted the vineyard and restored the estate to its former glory. The château is a superb example of 18th century architecture: aristocratic, classical and bright in style, it is surrounded by charming gardens designed by Le Nôtre. The quality of this First Classed Growth is the result of the meticulous attention devoted to its crafting from extremely low yields. The vineyard is sustainably cultivated and is HVE certified. Castelnau de Suduiraut is the Château’s second wine and no less care is taken in its production.

The fruit was gently pressed and the grape juice was clarified. Fermentation took place
with natural yeast in new French oak barrels at controlled temperatures of 20 to 25°C
and lasted for three weeks. The wine was aged on its fine lees in French oak barrels for
15 months, of which 20% was new oak. The wine was racked every three months and
then underwent a light filtration prior to bottling.
