2018 Native Grace Chardonnay, Henners
Sussex, England
This is English Chardonnay with ripeness, texture and a beautifully calm golden glow. From Henners in East Sussex, it opens with green apple, lemon, stone fruit and pear, before toast, butter, delicate spice and a fine citrus streak begin to unfold. The 2018 vintage gave the fruit real generosity, while barrel fermentation brings creaminess and polish without losing the wine’s English freshness.
The palate is textured, bright and elegant, with apple, lemon peel, stone fruit and subtle oak carried by clean acidity and a long mineral finish. It feels quietly grown-up, a Chardonnay with enough richness for roast chicken, enough freshness for seafood and enough poise to show just how confident English still wine has become.
For when you want English Chardonnay with polish, freshness and a little golden-hour charm.
Pairs with roast chicken, grilled fish, cheese soufflé, crab pasta, pork loin, creamy mushroom dishes, scallops, or a soft cheese board.
If this wine were… a view, it would be late afternoon over the Sussex Downs, chalk underfoot, gold in the sky and lemon blossom in the air.
Henners is based in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, just a few miles from the sea. The estate was founded by former Formula One engineer Lawrence Warr, whose precision-led approach helped shape its reputation for elegant English sparkling and still wines. Today, under head winemaker Collette O’Leary, Henners combines coastal freshness, sustainable vineyard work and careful winemaking to produce wines with clarity, texture and a distinctly English sense of place.
